People dont realise that these threads are a big compliment to Floyd rather than an insult.
WW was almost his highest weight and you are comparing him to one of the greats in that class who stepped up multiple divisions after that.
Compare him to greats from 130-140 and things get a hell of a lot more interesting. How many fighters can we find to beat Floyd then? My bet is not much more than a handful

this, all damn day.
i keep telling fools who keep matching may with the best means hes in the atg convo. and they match him vs guys in their prime whos bigger than him.
mays best is below ww. i dont know who would beat may below ww and those at or above would not have an easy time.
Recently I named a dozen welterweights who would pulverize Mayweather. Churls like some of these lads have only witnessed one generation of boxers, if that many. They would not even know or understand that the history of the sport is full of men who made offense their specialty as much as Mayweather has made defense his. On top of that, they had reasonably good to excellent defenses.
At welterweight he is not in the ATG conversation, though certain trolls try to insist that he is merely because his name appears in the same post as other welterweights.
The 130 division is not deep historically at all. For decades it did not even exist. Sure, Mayweather will do great there in the AT sense, because the competition is not deep. To prove his worth he would have to compete in the AT lightweight division. He would give a pretty good account of himself there, realistically, possibly making the top 12 as a lightweight.

ive recently made mince meat of most 'back in the day' guys resumes. not by opinion, but by fact;
by counting the number of opponents who had less than 10 wins and more than 20 losses (BEFORE their 50th fight !!!!)
by counting the number of ''debut'' guys an atg fights AFTER their 30th fight.
how many guys had losing records prior to fighting said ATG
etc, etc....
whoever thinks mays best weight is/was ww is not really a fight fan.
even still, NO ONE BELOW MW PULVERIZES MAY. not while may still has his vision.
to match him vs guys who spent their entire careers at/above ww is the cool thing to do, just so a fella can say ''would pulverize may''
may IS an ATG and ''non fans'' -slash- HATERS will just have to weep/make hypo fight threads declaring he will lose
Yeah, SRL beats him at 147. In his prime he is another great fighter but more naturally suited to 147 and in my honest opinion, from a more competitive era with less business cherry picking involved (although it always was there to a degree).
I agree with corso, at 130, and he was never one to dehydrate himself much, so maybe 126 he is a great fighter h2h with anyone. 135 and above there are fighters that could beat him, other great fighters of course but throughout his career he generally struggled in any fights with better opponents and found a way to edge them out. These opponents were good but not great.
For example Castillo gave him tough fights at 135, arguably even beat him. Castillo is a good fighter but I would 100% say Duran wipes this man out and Whitaker handily decisions him, Arguello likely takes this fight pretty handily too, as does Chavez sr.
Floyd at WW had a very risk free run with a lot of careful cherry picking. He had close fights with average oponent's so at 147 I pick any great welter to beat him. Hearns, SRL, Duran, Robinson - even chavez Sr. Floyd never had these kind of oponent's around to prove his merit. He had a prime Pacquiao right in front of him for 5 years and decided to wait him out. Good for him it paid off money wise but we are talking about greatness here.
I could very easily see Duran stopping Floyd after seeing the Maidana fights. You are talking a different type of animal and skill set.
The Ray Leonard that lost to Duran would be two steps above anyone Floyd has faced. I don't think Floyd past, say, the age of 32 would be able to cope. Whilst his chin is excellent he'd be losing rounds hand-over-fist purely on workrate.
Leonard vs Floyd at his peak is a tough question. One thing I've always believed is the fighter best placed to beat Floyd possesses a world class jab which hits like a telephone pole and, more importantly, hits often. Whilst Leonard had a solid jab I don't think he used it anywhere near often enough to really force Floyd onto the front foot in order to stay in contention when scoring a round.
Some people might find the above statement strange but the kind of jab I'm talking about is almost extinct in contemporary boxing. Why this is the case I'm not entirely sure. But the sport is all the poorer for it.
floyd had no problem beating oscar 8 rounds to 4 at 154, would be a close fight but i would bet my money on floyd at 147. duran vs floyd between 130-140 would be much more entertaining imo
