He was a defensive first counter styled boxer at 147. That in mind he will not fare well against great welters. Floyd was a high quality competitor at 130 not 147. He would barely break the top twenty at welter. Remember he only has 11 or 12 bouts at welter. His quality bouts at 147 were against out of prime men or men moving up to get paid!
I put a list up many times of welters that would destroy him, everyone saw what a club fighter like Marcos did to him just being aggressive along with Floyd not being able to hurt a real welter.
49-0 is a good record but his welter sheet reads 11-0 against who?
Ray
And this thinking that he opened up the most at 135/140 is ******. He just fought guys his size at 147, and couldn't just open up as much, because he wasn't fighting a bunch of way out of their league fighters. His competition rose, so of course he couldn't open up as much.
And this fallacy of him being a small WW, is his biggest trick that he actually pulled off convincing people. He's actually a pretty big WW, and has never been smaller than any of his WW opponents. Maidana might have weighed more, but remember, Floyd doesn't have an inch of fat on him, while Maidana has a good amount of fat on his body. And a lot of his fights, like his Pacquiao fight, he doesn't indulge his fight night weight, because then it shatters the illusion that he's a small WW, which he sure as hell isn't.
I bet he's actually bigger than, or pretty much the same size as Ray Leonard when he was fighting at WW. I can almost guarantee that.
And with all that being said, I think Sugar Ray absolutely smokes him. There's just nothing in Floyd's arsenal that would prevent Sugar from coming forward, and ******* his **** up. And he wouldn't even have to march forward, and tear him out the frame. He could just as easily box with him, and just catch him with a laser counter punch, and hurt him, and finish him, sooner or later.

Regardless, it wouldn't be a cake walk for either and I could possibly see Leonard get a late round TKO as well.
Edit: on second thought comparing Benitez to Floyd isn't indicative of a Floyd/Leonard fight because Benitez was notorious for laziness in training and Floyd is the opposite. It would probably be a less likely scenario in a bout with Floyd.
Floyd not only would never engage Ray, but he doesn't have the power to keep him honest, at all. You have to actually throw your hands in order to land something big, and earn a savage like Ray's respect.

this is just a popularity contest and theyre never dependable
what about may vs srl below ww ?
The fact that you don't have like 20 people voting for him shows you the level of respect Ray Leonard has, not because of how popular he is, but because of how savage he is. Sometimes we can just discuss a match up without fanboy glasses on. That's also why I barely post on this site anymore.

WW was almost his highest weight and you are comparing him to one of the greats in that class who stepped up multiple divisions after that.
Compare him to greats from 130-140 and things get a hell of a lot more interesting. How many fighters can we find to beat Floyd then? My bet is not much more than a handful

I respect your love of Floyd. He's a certified ATG, and you have no idea how hyped I was when he beat up Conor. I was jumping up and down, and going buck last night lol.
