Personally, Mayweather may be the best fighter I've seen in regards to ring generalship and command between the ropes. Even on the defensive, he always seems to be in control of the situation.

I do not blame people for leaning towards Mayweather. He does have a deep bag. But there is such a thing as contemporary bias. People always believe that what they are witnessing in their own time is the most amazing of its sort ever. I think Duran is the most vicious warrior I ever saw in a ring at the high level. But someone even older than me might reply that is because I never saw Mickey Walker or Harry Greb, and fully believe it.

I tend to rate Monzon highly in ring generalship because he did not have the great gift of speed or the reflexes of a fly yet managed to be in control all the time. He was in control in so far as turning the fight into the kind he wanted. Mayweather probably gets hit less than anyone I can remember outside of Nino Locche, but he really does not do a great deal of hitting his opponents, either. Other than his defensive artistry there is little to watch.

I understand what you're saying. I didn't mean to imply that Mayweather is the best ever, he's just the best I've seen within in my lifetime. He gets the nod over Sweet Pea and Benitez as the best defensive fighters I've personally witnessed.

Regardless, I'm not the biggest Money Mayweather fan but I do appreciate his skill level. It's a rare fighter that can completely control and dictate an entire fight through defense. I'm not sure if it would be counted under ring generalship but Floyd's defense and adaptability are exceptional in my opinion and usually see him in complete control of the flow of the fight.

            Chin - jake la motta.

            End of discussion on that.

I disagree, at least speaking for myself anyway. There seems to be a bias towards older fighters in a general sense. Mayweather sets out to do the job that he does and defensively speaking he is most likely the best at it, as much as I hate to admit it. While he doesn't throw many punched as you said, the punches he does throw mostly connect. With him having the highest overall accuracy percentage (can someone confirm?) I'd say he does in fact have the "sweet science" of boxing down to almost perfection. To hit and not be hit. Now don't get me wrong.. boxing is an entertainment sport, and that's something that Mayweather mostly fails at. I don't agree with the way that Mayweather goes about his business... And I think that alot of the older fighters would beat Mayweather (srr,Duran,Henry Armstrong, kid gavilan, Hearns etc) But I don't think that this "bias towards modern fighters" is true.

Or are you just a liar.

Calling people names and acting like a complete douchebag on every single post is abit redundant. Grow up, chump.

I don't know about Armstrong because I am not familiar enough with him. He does seem a tad small. But the the other fighters you mentioned would KO MayW in my opinion. I do not see any way he could survive with Hearns for 15 rounds. Robinson and Leonard not only beat him, but quite easily, and by KO in my opinion.

Oh you're missing out my friend. It would be one of Mayweather a toughest fights for sure. The relentless pressure Armstrong put forth was ridiculous.. who would take the win I'm not sure though. But I am in 100% agreement with you on Hearns and Robinson, Duran would also most likely KO Mayweather. Definitely at his lighter weights but as Duran progressed to welter he didnt seem to have the same "hands of stone" that he had at lightweight. I think Leonard would dance rings around Mayweather for the 15... It wouldn't be a complete wash of course with respect to Mayweather.
