Defense is Floyd's specialty and I don't necessarily find him to be he best boxer ever but he is most certainly up there when it comes to defense

As for this argument about Mayweather and Marciano. Rock's underrated defense was one of the best at heavyweight, and was coupled with the hardest punch in the history of mankind, with the possible exceptions of Samson, Hercules and Popeye.. Rocky's fist went through brick walls, Floyd's went to the doctor for treatment.

Look at some of the patsies who with a straight face have been called champions in modern times. Baldomir was one of those great champs that Mayweather fought. No one knew who he was, no one respected him and no one cared. Mayweather has 21 so-called champions on his resume, because collecting names is a big deal to modern managers and fighters. Mayweather was one of the worst offenders. He just wanted the names, figuring people in the future would not be smart enough to figure out that these names were all shot when he decided to have an exhibition with them. Because Mayweather is unable to do basic arithmetic, he reasons that others cannot, either. Your dog poops on the floor, and because you are not there, thinks you will never figure out who did it. Same level of reasoning for both Mayweather and a show dog.

I don't believe he's the best ever. However I do think he's better than a lot want to concede but, on the other hand, he's consistently overrated as well.

Why do you feel his 'career decisions' were poor choices? - You made me go look; he seems to have been the classic 'contender,' close several times but never a champion.

Throw out the last loss to Rosenblatt in the '96 (he was finished by then) and you have five loses and one draw, with only one name on that list, Joe Manley, (who wasn't a slouch,) not being considered 'great' at some level.

          Loses and Draws:

Jim Watt UD WBC Title LW
Edwin Rosario SD WBC Title LW
          Joe Manley UD
          Meldrick Taylor D
          Hector Camacho UD
James McGirt KO 1 IBF Title SLW

He seems to have position himself correctly getting three shots at a title; he just didn't measure up as a champion. I don't see where he could have done it differently.
To begin with, Howard probably started off with the wrong trainer. Never should have had his father training him. He hooks up with a top notch trainer, maybe not had Jones and Rappaport, he would have won two titles minimum. And he wouldn't have lost to Watt, who was a decent fighter, but with the proper handling of his career 1) would have been prepared, and 2) would have not had to fight in Scotland in the first place. As it was, he took the Rosario fight on a couple of weeks notice, and was 180 pounds, or some good amount overweight. A couple of his fights could have gone against him. Many feel that, before his challenge of Watt, Vilomar Fernandez beat him in their 12 rounder.

Rocky's defense was most certainly NOT one of the best at heavyweight.

            Not even close.

To be fair to Mayfleur he didn't invent this "strategy" he just perfected it.

Cotto is another of the worse modern offenders.
              Canelo Is another....

The media is a big factor also

But the blame really falls on the pig-ignorant fans.
Nobody tries to sell dogsh'it unless they know someone ******
              enough to buy....

You just joined this site last month yet you already found the History section and think it's ok to post in a very disrespectful and insulting style.

                  I suspect an alt.

                    I'm new!!
Where are you going with this??

Aren't you going to tell us all how Rock had bad defense??
Could you name heavyweights who do have good defense??

                    You seem angry.
                    Angry and dumb...

Maybe this will cheer you up

                      But here's the thing Hawk.

He never proved it against prime top quality opposition when he was in his prime.
So in reality we will never actually know how good he actually was.

The fact he was too scared to take the toughest fights speaks volumes don't you think???

But that would still just be speculation on your part.

Besides the guy got beat by Castillo and Maidana.
                      Don't nobody gotta concede sh'it.....

The guy ducked Margarito, Williams and prime Manny.
He is also a proven steroid cheat who injects his hands with numbing agents before fights.

He should have DQ against Judah, but rules go out the window
                      whenever mayfleur is concerned....

Remind me how is he good???
