Ironickly the least dangerous aspect might be his penchant for wearing stockings!

But this guy is a sociopath...classic... Out for numero uno and numero uno alone.
LMAO at the stockings line brother.

And yea I'd agree about the sociopath & looking out for number 1 stuff, but I kinda think a competitive sport, especially a non-team oriented sport, attracts &/or breeds sociopath's & guys looking out for number 1 so its not like this is something odd in boxing.

The way he has been ducking GGG has erased all my fond memories and respect of delahoya growing up. He has tarnished his reputation, the fool. Alot of drinking, drugs and sex really does mess up the mind.

On the other hand as a businessman he has stepped up the process of giving himself a bad name by so transparently protecting Canelo from GGG while maneuvering and stalling for a giant purse for a fight that is not timely by the time it happens. Boo!
a 15 million dollar offer for a fighter with (at that time) zero quality wins and 2 ppv flops under his belt = protecting Canelo from g string?

I don't know Oscar personally so I can't speak on that. But as a fighter Oscar was a beast! Supremely talented and fought all of the top fighters around his weight class. Had some close decisions go against him (Trinidad) and had some close decisions go his way (Whitaker). One helluva fighter!

There are traits that people have... To be compulsive, driven, and unable to stop...can make a neurotic individual keep tapping the elevator button knowing logically that it does no good, it can make a person impossible to live with and infantile...Or when chaneled properly can make a hard working, super bright innovator that will not accept second best. In any case, the person with these traits can be a neurotic, a genius or both.

Athletes have traits that a sociopath has, a lot of the traits overlap, just like the briliance of Robert Lee (considered by many to be the best American military mind) shares many traits with the psychopathic mind of other military men who would not flinch before making a decision that guarntees death to lots of men.... like Stalin who was a psychopath.

Oscar and Hopkins both have very similar traits but I think Oscar is in reality a sociopath, I doubt Hopkins is...despite the criminal record... I don't know this but would guess this is correct.

The reason I make this distinction is that a relatively small group of people that share common traits that could make them a socio or psycho path...are actually a boni fide mentally ill individual. Ditto for neurotics. But its true that the same traits that make one a great fighter can make one a great manipulator lol.

As a person, Oscar has always given so much of himself to the media and to journalists like me who made a career out of hounding him with questions and interview requests. He always responded with a smile and polite words. Over the years, especially in the hard years when he struggled with the demons so many of us are bound to find within us, he kept his humility and generosity of spirit.

He is not only a fine example of a man but also one of the finest welterweights I have ever witnessed. In my many years in the sport, he is third only to the great Ray Leonard and the fluid Jose Napoles. It saddens me that so many young fans would ridicule him for actions many of them have probably also undertaken, without having ever had to face the highs and lows of a professional athlete who had so much of his life lived in front of the bright lights and cameras of the American media.

I have a rule I follow: If someone can find the good in someone, something that I cannot, then all credit to them. My purpose is not to cast aspersions on De La Hoya... there comes a point where a person's conduct, beyond their achievements, their demons, is deplorable.

Let me be perfectly clear here: cross dressing, abusing drugs, in my book are not necessarily deplorable actions, that is most assuredly not what I have a problem with. Consenting adults have the right to play... Some of us play rougher than others.

The way one treats their family, the way one nurtures, and guides young fighters is another matter entirely. How one uses media attention is also another matter. In these matters Oscar, or anyone for that matter, is hardly above reproach. So, while I don't condone celebrity bashing i also don't believe anyone is above decency and goodness to others, and above being called out when manipulating others for their own gain.
