Taken as is, he lost clearly though. I think it's just a case of him doing better than the first fight, thus being the emotional winner if you will, and also him being the fan favourite. People just wanted him to overcome the odds and win, and by doing better, people sort of give him more than he deserved.
I see a lot of this when discussing that fight.

I'm a huge Holyfield fan. As noted over and over, Evander did considerably better than the first fight and it certainly wasn't one sided, but I just can't see how anyone could have Evander winning.

We all know Holyfield was past his prime, but how do you guys think a prime Holyfield would have performed against Lewis?

No, can't say that he did! 115-113 maybe 116-112 either way he lost.

I think prime Holyfield wins his share against Lewis.
I think Lewis is a tough matchup for Evander either way.

Well in his prime he was not as thick and strong so he'd have more trouble with Lewis on the inside. All in all I think it would have a less obvious gap but Lewis still getting the better of him.

That's a good point. Holyfield at best can make it a close fight and make Lewis struggle a bit, I just have a hard time seeing any version of Evander win against Lewis. Lewis was the best at utilizing his size advantage.

I'm gonna watch it again, when I get a chance to.
