Sugar AA I agree 100% with you comments. The problem is that he spent the majority of time at 140-154 and is considered by boxing fans as a Welter!
At 130 he had comparable attributes to the better guys at 130, however at 147 he gets battered by the greats. Just watch the punches from Maidana rattle him. Hell he was closing his eyes instead of reacting to the punch physically he mentally checked out. Granted he was at the vend of his career but he never reacted well to punches.
I can see him highly rated at super feather not above 130 his power goes down and at 135 he could do well but relentless pressure guys with power would hunt him if he couldn't get their respect. Power in the pros with willingness gives a lesser talent a real shot at the skilled fighter. When another skilled guy has power too your in for a long night.

Why do you people keep using floyd at welter as an example..

Floyd was at his best at 130, and at 130 he did everything damn near perfect, and wasn't just a defensive fighter like he was in his mid to late 30s at welter and jr mid..

p4p at 130, floyd is one of the most skillful guys ever.. There isn't anything he doesn't do great..

body shots
cutting off the ring
power punching
shoulder roll
high guard
straight punches
distance
etc
etc..

I can't think of one trait that floyd didn't perform at an above average rate

sure at 147 he wasn't much of an offensive fighter, but hearns wasn't exactly an offensive juggernaut when he went to 168 or 175..

Its a double standard to use prime form of robinson, hearns, etc and then compare them to an old, up in weight, past his prime floyd... Just use 130 floyd when he was untouchable, and had great power,, he hurt everyone when he landed flush

I hear you...difficult culture to live in as a foriegner. I studied Mandarin Chinese because it was so easy to work with. I love japanese texts from the KoRyu, but with these texts, because of when they were written, it does not matter so much if one studies the Kanji from a Classical Chinese, of Japanese perspective.

But because Chinese culture and language is such, that one does not have to deal with honorifics, and other potential embarassing situations, it was easy for me to learn how to also speak. I had everybody from Taiwanese, malysian, Vietnamese helping me with my Mandarin. Meanwhile my friends who studied Tibetan as Tibetan scholars could not find many Tibetan speakers...and this is in berkley California! They also had to mess with that linguistic monster known as Sanskrit....If you took Latin, gave it a quantum physics structure and a lot of hits of really strong Acid....you have Sanskrit! Even the Buddha wouldn't speak that mess, preferring Pali.

BUt i feel your pain. i was lucy to have some guidance from Japanese friends in the martial arts, and help when translating japanese texts, and I remember how hard they said it was trying to speak socially....Most people think the tones in Chinese make it hard, but context of the sentence usually takes are of that, you usually just sound silly if you mess up, about the worse one can do is call one's mother a horse (Ma).

BUt with the honorifics in Japanese!!!! I can only imagine being at a company dinner, having to introduce your boss and inadvertently saying something like "and this is slick, my main man."

I did have a great tryst with a Japanese model for a while (she was married) and I can certainly say while it may take a while to catch one, she was a pleasure through and through! She wanted me to be her boy toy...I was young, good looking and broke, because she was married to a guy with lots of money and little else. Fun days.

A kindred spirit! My older friends live in India, and were into transcendental meditation back in the 70's. The love Franklin jones, aka, A Di Da. So much we could discuss at length. I am a Cal guy, EECS mid eighties! I knew everything at 18, yes I did! I had all the worlds problems soled back then, but nobody listened to me..... Each year after 18, I lost half of my vast ego knowledge, until I was 30, then I realized I knew nothing, and my strongestly held beliefs were silly!
