I like Max Schmelling just for who he beat and when he beat him.
Tunney fought at heavyweight for 3-4 years and around 9 or 10 fights. He moved from lightheavy to heavy when he was around 27 years old. He was the same size as Schmelling and Sharkey so size had nothing to do with it.

I'm glad you read the tone correctly as often with written communication it is difficult to get across.

      Good vocabulary.

I may continue to post questions from statements you make in the hope you'll address them.
i can assure you i will not be addressing any question you put to me. Reason being, that your whole agenda on this forum is and always has been to "close down" a debate on boxing... i have tried many times to debate with you, i tried here on this particular thread. But as always, you make condascending comments until you close down the debate. You post those kind of comments when you are coming worst off and cannot find the answers to reply with...

In a sense you are correct. But Lewis never had any intension of fighting a rematch with Vitali Klitschko. Lewis promised the entire boxing world that he would fight a rematch, boasting. "One Brother for breakfast, The other Brother for Tea"... Yet he dragged out his reign for nearly 9 months, with the WBC deadline only 2 days away from him being stripped of his last remaining belt. He announced he was to retire.

Right, but he still retired before he was stripped. Vitali Klitschko just did the same thing so he could also retire as WBC Heavyweight Champion as well. I'm sure others must have, as well. Fighters get old and then before their next defense sometimes decide to retire as champ. Some come back, knowing they'll probably lose, but take the payday, like Sergio Martinez coming back to fight Cotto.

Lewis was done, despite what he said and started to realize it and probably decided it was best to go out on top, so to speak. Knowing how tough that fight with Vitali was and that he was getting hurt with some hard shots before the cut stoppage, he probably just figured I'd better retire and let someone else take the mantle.

The K brothers then were able to dominate after that. If Wlad doesn't at least fight Wilder, he can easily be accused of the same thing, although there are most likely mandatories for him as well that might get in the way of that before a unification can happen.

Tunney got his ass knocked out at Heavyweight but was gifted an extra 14 seconds to resuscitate. He had one single defense vs Tom Heeny and ran into retirement 2 months after his 31st birthday.

We dont know how good Tunney wouldve been because he left when Braddock, Max Schemelling, Primo Carnera, and Jack Sharkey were all Active and in there early 20s. Gene was ATG at lower classes but his legacy at 200+ does not exist..

At the time Tunney was champion, 175+ was all that mattered in determining a heavyweight legacy.

And that 14 extra seconds is a gross exaggeration. Tunney beats that count regardless.

If you wanna call the "long count" and his single defense vs Tom Heeny a LEGACY, thats on you. Fact of the matter is he left just as the division was heating up! Legit 200+ lb men arrived on the scene and Tunney ran for the hills!

Legacy was the word that YOU used first. Tunney got out of boxing with his brains and his money. I admire him, along with Marciano and Lewis, for achieving that rare accomplishment.

i think I figured out how to make this work: Joe has questions and you have answers...the problem is the answers you have are to different questions. This happens a lot, people ask you qestions and the answers are to different questions....we just have to find the right questions! Then....the questions would match the answers!
