That's interesting and something I wasn't aware of. Louis didn't mention this in his book. However Louis did include an experience with Max Baer making racist comments before and after their fight.

Really? I don't remember reading that, what did Baer say?

Louis didn't say what he said specifically but when talking about their fight he said he was "disappointed in Max (Baer) for saying some really bad things about my race."

If Louis had slapped Galento's mug in public he would have been arrested or killed. Galento's attempt to scare Louis as a member of white society forced Joe to direct all his fury to the ring though.

For vitriolic racism Corbett seems to have been a classic.

i like the story about Galento as an older guy heckling Jackie Gleason, Gleason didn't know who he was and asked him to step outside. The next thing he remembered was waking up with a doctor looking over him.

Galento belongs with John L. Sullivan and tank Abbot. Guys you do not want to meet in a street fight.

Elroy would knock him out after winging in some shots Foreman style

I remember after saying that Max Baer was a tough guy who you would not want to meet in a streetlight, Elroys response was "yes he would knock out the average Joe, however in most bars today there would be someone who would put Max on his ass"

Looks like Galento wears a toupe and had his hair coloured. Lol. There's the seventies for ya!
