Looks like Galento wears a toupe and had his hair coloured. Lol. There's the seventies for ya!
Yeah that toupee was really bad

I became curious about Galento after reading how Louis actually described him as having "what they call charisma these days." He said the two became friends afterwards and he would visit a bar/restaurant that Galento owned. In Louis words the the two would "laugh about what they once took so seriously."

The book "Joe Louis, my life " is a great boxing autobiography to read for those who haven't read it.

Nice. Tells you a lot about Louis. Him being a target for Galento's racism (according to other accounts in this thread), and then forgiving the guy shows how great a guy Louis was also out of the ring.

What people tend to forget is toney was the goods...a real "G" he had a saloon "the nut club" in a bad part of jersey and he ran the place while he trained...In those days he was the bouncer, the bartender, etc. he just was a real battler, I don't think he was being personal...its just the way the guy was. He was a hardass who would deck one first and ask questions later. He did calm down later and turned out, like Foreman to become socially acceptable. he was a street fighter, thats what he did. He probably needed to get angry to fight louis.

Of course elroy who is all evolved would have kicked his ass from Hoboken to paramus.....but thats another story for another time.

I know right!? Its actually very compelling proof of the phenomena if you think it through.

Again, it really has nothing to do with boxing and it takes a while to tell the tale, but if anyone wants to know there are three members who have the details. It involves space crafts, aliens and Richard Nixon....and no Nixon is not a space man!

I am going to have to look this up but I recall that in the book I have on ray arcel Tony was training and acting boorish in the gym on day and jack dempsy was annoyed about his behavior and climbed in the ring and tuned Tony up. I am going to have to find the book to confirm as I am going off memory.
