come on man. if blown up middleweights can beat ruiz what do you think a beast like lewis would have done to him? ruiz lacked the power to get lennox's respect. sure,,,he may have lasted some rounds with all his hugging and mauling but lennox would land something big at some point

      • There will always be this thing with Lennox that he cheated Vitali of a rematch. Wise move though.

Ruiz was hired as a sparring partner by the Lewis team in 1994 when Lewis was in training camp to defend his title against Oliver McCall. Ruiz was in the UK to fight Julius Francis. Eye witness accounts, claim Lewis could not handle the "Grappling Hook" style of Ruiz. On day two of their sparring sessions, Ruiz dropped Lewis and by all reports Lewis was unconscious for over a minute. The Lewis camp got rid of the services of John Ruiz that day. Over the next 5yrs John Ruiz fought himself into the No1 contender position for Lewis WBA Title. Ruiz knew he could beat Lewis. Lennox wanted nothing to do with his former sparring partner, so gave up the title belt rather than face "The Grappling Hook"..Who he knew had put him to sleep once before.

Wauw. I never heard that before. Do you have sources to back up that Ruiz KO claim Sonny?

Im not calling you a liar but I find that very hard to belieive. anyway,,,,sparring doesnt mean everything. holyfield was rumored to have always got the worst of it in many of his sparring matches but turned it up a notch when it really counted. ruiz was just not a good boxer at all. he was awckward and disrupted his opponents timing with his holding and mauling. thats what won him some descent fights but it wouldnt work with a guy like lennox. too strong and ruiz would be vulnerable to the inside uppercut in the clinches. ruiz had nothing to keep lewis off him. just think about it. lennox took on hard hitters like bruno,,ruddock,,lionel butler,,,tommy morrison,,david tua etc. so why on earth would he be ducking ruiz out of fear. you dont realize how silly that sounds?

Bruno, Ruddock, Butler, Morrison & Tua was all washed up journeymen fighters. to claim they was at their peak is laughable. They were all at the tail-end of their careers. John Ruiz was "At the top of his Game"1999-2002 You can rubbish John Ruiz all you like but it won't wash with me. Ruiz floored Holyfield, something Lewis never came close to doing in 24rds. Ruiz lost to Roy Jones & James Toney, yet take away PEDs and Ruiz knocks both those guys out.

anyone over 200lbs can land land a perfectly timed punch and drop even the most durable of opponents if the timing is right. bert cooper dropped and hurt holyfield even worse than ruiz but he sure as hells wasnt as good or has hard hitting as lennox. those above fighters I mentioned were not washed up. a few of them may have been getting on the other side of the hill but they were far from shot. ruiz was also blasted out by david tua who couldnt as so much win around against lennox. (yes I know it was a poorer version of tua but he wasnt shot at that point)
