    Forgive me likeamulekick.

I think we should debate this matchup from a historical perspective. Talkingpoints could be:

    - How long should we go back to find a fight of this significance/magnitude?

    - Can the belated timing of the fight compare to previous superfights and what is the significance of that?

    - How will the outcome affect the Winner/loser in an all-time perspective?

    - Is this the globally most significant fight of all time?

    And so on.

Note that this thread will be moderated so NO TROLLING and no FANBOYISM.

    Thank you.

This would have massive historical signifcance 5 to 7 years ago but Pac is past his prime but I still hope he shuts that big mouth up. I have little time for trash talk or big mouths. Jimmy Clabby, Les Darcy, Carmen Basilio etc never had to, they just did it. Not saying they didn't have a say, Darcy sure told it how he saw it but only to associates never in the press and that is how many great fighters were, of course there are big mouths who were also great but I don't see the need for disrespect. Mayweather has a lot of skill but hope he gets his ass knocked out.

For people old enough to remember the build up to fights like Ali-Frazier 1 or Leonard-Duran 1....

Were people comparing those fight to previous super fights? It seems like people want to compare Mayweather-Pacquiao to other super fights of the past but i can't understand why, just let it be Mayweather-Pacquiao.

Currently its the fight that the public "knows about"!
The average sports fan knows the names but has no idea what these guys bring to the table. Manny is billed as a "puncher" really?
Mayweather the "pure boxer" give me a break!

Their past their primes but the names are very marketable and thats what the business has become. The sport has built personalities and Mayweather is the bad guy and Manny the good one. BS!!!!

It should be competitive and it should be exciting but neither of these men are in the top ten welters ever so the significence to the division isn't any big deal but the bout does give boxing in general a big boost!
If the top men could fight one another in all the divisions boxing would make
          a huge come back.
However it stopped being a competition a long time ago, business rules.

I think the unproven but relatively likely notion that both these guys are on performance enhancers detracts from this fight quite a bit. Floyd is 38, been a champ since 21, still moves with cat like speed ? Like come on. And manny going from 112 to 147.. No real noticeable fat gain. This sports become a joke.

I haven't seen anyone really breaking it down to be honest. It seems like the general consensus is that for Pacquiao to win, he has to knock Mayweather out. Which I totally disagree with - In fact, I'd say he doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell to knock Mayweather out.

Pacquiao for some reason, is a very underrated boxer. People remember him for his days as a wrecking ball just smashing his way through all the divisions like a cyclone. But he's not that guy anymore. What he has over Mayweather, in my opinion, are two things - Quicker footwork and throws more combinations. Two things that could potentially make it harder for Mayweather, if they are used correctly. If he can go in-and-out and throw 4-5 punches before getting tagged in return, I could see him winning some rounds and could potentially win a decision if he could maintain it throughout.

However, Mayweather is good enough to make him work from an awkward stance, plus he's got severe reach advantage I would imagine. I think the lead-right from Mayweather will be a massive weapon for him and a check hook to follow up. It will stop Pacquiao in his traps all night I think. It's also been a while since Pacquiao has faced someone with legit welterweight power. I think that may be a factor too.

Ultimately, I see Mayweather winning and I have a feeling he'll stop him. I'm thinking about the Hatton fight.

My (current) prediction is that it will be a lively and competitive fight for the first half, with both fighters scoring knockdowns. Floyd will find the right tactics in the later rounds and pull away with a close but clear unanimous decision.
