    Sounds like an interesting topic.

I continue to believe Clifford was simply beaten by a very aggressive and powerful Tyson. But you do cast some doubt now don't you.

Ettienne was considered a contender though, however doubtful. Not the sort of opponent one would expect Tyson to run through at that time.
etienne was expected to be quick work for tyson. he was chinny as hell. light hitting fres oquendo knocked him out and frans botha dropped him twice earning a draw

I agree, and Mike talks in the post fight interview about how they both needed money and they were doing each other a favor by fighting each other.

That was also the infamous interview where Jim gray asks him about his facial tattoo and rumors of him being sick with the flu during fight week and mike responds with the classic "I broke my back, my back is broke"

I also never understood his handlers matching him up with huge guys like mcbride and Danny... Mike has always struggled for the most part too look good vs towering big guys..

Why match him up with Danny and mcbride...

Much bigger fights vs smaller guys were available at the time
            Holyfield 3
            Jirov
            Mesi
            Moorer
            Oleg maskev
            Toney..

Hell the toney-Tyson press conferences would have been PPv material

I think the mcbride and Danny fights are some of the worst match making ever if your trying to rebuild a faded star like Tyson

If you read Mike's book, he talks about how little interest he had in boxing at that time, those guys would've destroyed him. He wasn't an "athlete" like that anymore.

Would have made more money, and I highly doubt the 04-05 versions of Holyfield, jirov, moorer, etc would destroy anyone

Mike needed to fight faded names like himself instead of big lumbering guys

Not fixed, Seldon just took the gutless way out and collected his paycheck.

I remember watching that fight at my dads friends house thinking seldon was going to do something, i mean he was the wba champion..then he took a dive, or at least thats what it appeared to me but he was terrified in there... everyone was pissed! A younger trinidad stole the show that night.
