How close was Hagler vs Duran

this is one of my favorite fights of all time featuring 2 of my favorite fighters. I like this fight because of the amount of skill involved.

I've watched it so many times and would tell others to do so as well and to watch in close detail. Hagler is the stronger guy and often looks like the more effective fighter, but in close inspection you can see Duran scoring with sharp hard punches. Hagler is forced to shorten his punches up a great deal to land on the slick Roberto Duran and in turn loses some leverage and power. At the end of the fight you can see Haglers Swollen face and how essentially unscathed Duran is. Hagler also landed some very hard body shots which seemed to slow Duran down a great deal.

That being said, Hagler did strong work in the middle of the fight and at the very end, I'm not even dis*****g his win - but the cards were very close and I would like to hear other peoples opinion.

Duran is such a technical fighter this often happened to him a lot of the time, although the judges were usually good, the general crowd is often mislead by the commentating or their view from distance. This is evident especially in the Barkley fight, a fight in which I think Duran dominated (once again look at the faces after the fight and see why).

Back to Marvin Hagler however, I should say he had one of the best jabs in history in any weight class, and a tremendous skill set. Its safe to say he showcased his supreme skill in the Duran fight in his ability to beat Duran at his own game and adjust and use his strength.

I think this fight was more of a testament of Duran's greatness. I think the right man won but I also had it very close, I score it a round or two in favor of Hagler.

Not that close but it was just surprising to see Duran last 15 rounds, against a guy as tough, skilled and powerful as Hagler. I think the last time I saw it, I had it by 4 points or something.

Really close fight, Hagler was all swollen up and cut it up by the end, meanwhile Duran looked like he just took a shower.

I attended a closed circuit screening of this fight at the Miami Jai Alai - and at the final bell I rushed for the exit, in order to catch a cab outside the arena. So I didn't actually hear the verdict being announced, and it wasn't until the next morning, that I realized how close the scoring had been! That came as somewhat of a surprise to me, as I thought Hagler won quite clearly... even though I had been even more surprised by Duran's great showing!

A lot of rounds were competitive but Hagler won most if them.

It was reasonably close, particularly in each round, but a clear win for Hagler nonetheless. 4 or 5 rounds I'd say.

One of those fights where each round was close, but Hagler was just more active and clearly the better conditioned, bigger fighter still fighting at his peak.

^Yeah well, seems like you and me automatically disagree in every thread. Maybe you don't realise how many people believe Duran won this fight. I don't think I'm ****ing nuts for thinking Hagler won 8 to 9 rounds.
