I hope somebody red K's me for this but in the spirit of full disclosure....When Juan ma was first coming up he reminded me of a small Joe Louis. He would track an opponent, set them up and explode with the proper punching combos. his punches were straight as an arrow and looked technically superb in the manner of Louis....later on I have to believe he lost that technical edge because he did not look the same against Salidad.
On a more sane note: Mike Tyson reminds me a little because his punches were untelegraphed, both hands could deliver and he always had great technique & efficiency. Thing is like Louis the Tyson punch was explosive, unseen at times and set up in a fast combination. Guys hit by Tyson often said that it wasn't necessarily the hardest punch but it caught them....Just like Louis, where a guy like Baeur probably threw a harder right but not nearly as technically sound.
Floyd has the technicle skills and timing on his punches but he is not nearly devistating enough on his punches to be in the same league as a pure puncher like Louis.
I think Telfio Stephenson also had that ability. His punches were arrow straight and on the mark, in combos and he set them up like louis. He was very accurate like Louis was.
Stephenson and Ali were more athletic than Louis though and incorporated these attributes...often both guys looked more like middleweights because of their hand and foor speed.
The Klitschkos have good straight punches but cannot throw combos in the manner that Louis could and neither man can stalk and set up anything off the jab like Louis did. The difference as I see it is that when a fighter punches as a reaction to their opponent it is not the same as initiating, aggressing and finding a way to deliver a premeditated attack on the opponent.
Don't feel bad about juanma,, for about 4 years I thought he was Tito Trinidad but better
Harold Johnson took a lot of things from Louis, looked up to him and was influenced by him.
They have a lot of similarities, they aren't identical, Johnsons more of a boxer and obviously has no where near the power but the technical aspects of the game are alike.
The ghostly lateral movement, emotionless gaze, and rapier right cross, are all reminiscent of Don Curry during the early 80's..
And in the 90's, it was Trinidad, who fought in a style I liken to 'creeping death'
Both the above had exploitable chins, as did JL.
