  • Best Southpaw Heavyweight Ever?

This list may look like a joke, but if I'm missing anyone please mention him. I'm talking about heavyweights who fought almost entirely in the southpaw stance. I don't care if they are naturally right or left handed.

IMO it would be Byrd followed closely by Moorer.

Byrd has beaten the better fighters out of the group but out of all of the southpaws I would not relish fighting Moorer.

I think Sultan would be #2 but it was a well know fact that the man absolutely hated boxing and as soon as he made enough money he walked away from the Sweet Science never to return.

    EDIT: I spelled "soon" wrong

Probably Byrd, but Moorer holds the best win over a prime Holyfield.

        .
Ibragimov never impressed me greatly. I think Moorer would have beaten him.

Sultan was a silver medalist in the games. (that tells loads about the man's quality)

22 and 1 (18) as a pro, fought Wlad to a stand still (Klit did not press the fight because Sultan can crack)

IMO Sultan sparks Moorer, they had about equal power and speed but Sultan's chin was 10x better than Moorer's.

And all of that from a man who absolutely despised boxing, just think if he would of liked it.

His family wanted him to stop but i'v never heard anything about Sultan hating it. Michael Spinks hated boxing.

Byrd, Moorer, Chagaev, Ibragimov, Sanders, Thompson, Zolkin. People always forget Zolkin but he was quite good and all of his three losses controversial he was at least Sanders and Thompson level. H2h at their best i think Chagaev is underestimated and could get a win over anybody listed. Ruslan beat Ibragimov in the amateurs it was a excellent fight.

I always heard from the infamous Panama Lewis ( before he had the heart attack)who was brought on as an adviser to Sultan when Sultan turned pro, that the man had a strong distaste for the sport.

And yes I forgot about Chagaev, a solid fighter but kind of ran hot and cold, no?

He was supposed to unify with Ibragimov in 2007 but torn his achillies tendon in 2007 then not long after coming back he had the Hepatitis antigen thing. From2008 on he was never quite the same but in his physical prime he was very good. Even in 2011 overweight, slower and clearly past prime he gave Povetkin everything he could handle but didn't have the gas tank for the last four rounds which cost him the fight.

Zolkin was supposed to be the original opponent for Bowe in 96 but they went with Golota because of the bigger Polish fanbase. I wouldnt have been surprised if he handed Bowe a loss had they met.

Good call with Zolkin. He was worthy of being in this poll. The only name remaining on my list was Richard Dunn

byrdhe beat some good Hws & would fight anyone. he didn't too many of the big names because he wasn't a draw. he often got paid less then his challenger. I don't count his WBO win because the belt was not recognized as a world title then. I never watched some of the older guys.
