Strong as an ox, tough as nails.....Through sheer force of will Mr Norton was a nightmare for all the cutey pies with their technique and wise ring educations...Holmes and Ali still probably have nightmares about Ken Norton!

It takes some courage to step into the ring against an undefeated fighter with 32 KO’s on his record. Because, you don’t know how hard the guy hits until you yourself has been hit. Norton never hesitated to find out.

“Duane Bobick, the US heavyweight representant in the 1972 Olympic Games, took a 38-0 record with 32 KO's into the ring against Norton in a prime time network television bout in May 1977 … Norton trapped Bobick in a corner landing several roundhouse rights. One of the punches that connected was a right uppercut that caught Bobick in the throat. Staggered, blind from his tearing eyes as a result of the throat punch and walloped by another huge right hand, Bobick went to the canvas face first. He rose as the count reached ten. Referee Petey Delia was prepared to allow Bobick to continue but as he waved the fighters back together, Duane swayed on unsteady legs and the bout was stopped. One of the most underrated fighters of all time. He had the skills to give any boxer hell and at the same time the wrong style for just about any big puncher.

As a man, in interviews he came off with a quiet confidence with a lot of humility.

I'm truly sorry to hear of his passing. That's two.....Frazier being the first. Time sure does sneak up on you.
