Is De La Hoya top 10 all time at welterweight?

I have watched Basilio's fights, why do you think i've been so persistent in backing his greatness?
That is a fair enough judgement, it just raises the question of why you were arguing so much about the word 'clearly'. Even in your own terms Basilio could be considered 'clearly' better than De La Hoya. It was just semantics.

If you were ranking based on who you think would win head to head, as opposed to resumes, would he be higher on your lists Cliff?

Overall, how good was De La Hoya? He was one of my favorite fighters to watch, I have them all. People say he lost all his big fights but the Trinidad fight was close and he won his two big grudge matches against Mayorga and Vargas. I know he has good wins, but how about great wins? What about the ones against Whitaker or Camacho? I know Chavez was past prime by the time he fought him though.

He is an easy ATG and first ballot hall of famer. Probably top 70. People say he lost all his big fights are fools. He won Ruelas, Hernandez, Quartey, Whitaker, CHavez, Vargas, etc. How were those not big fights? Chavez had only lost to Randall and Whitaker by the time Oscar fought him. And oddly enough didn't lose again until Oscar foughth him years later in the rematch

His conditioning wasn't superb and he was willing to coast at times and he lost momentum and rounds that way!! He could be in the top forty but no where near the top twenty five!

i would put Oscar's resume up vs anyone's...
Oscar may have never dominated a division like a hagler or roy jones but oscar fought everyone, usually at their peak, throughout his career,,,
Dude fought 4 p4p #1 fighters, pernell, hopkins, floyd, manny
plus prime undefeated champions like ike, tito, shane, genaro, sturm
throw in ruelas,, leija, mayorga, vargas, camacho
Oscar fought everyone, took on huge challenges like undefeated tito, roided vargas, much bigger hopkins,, much younger floyd and manny,,,,,
I honestly think oscar has top 5 resume of all-time,,,
Yes he didnt win all his fights, but you try fighting the guys he fought, and he fought them all prime for the most part,,,
I still get blown away by oscar fighting ike, tito, and shane in about 18 months,,
Ridiculous schedule,,, It a shame that floyd mayweather doesnt follow oscar's lead and make the big fights happen over and over again... The sport would be so much better
