Spinks has been significantly faster than all of his opponents I think he'll struggle going against Roy who's actually much faster than he is.

I think Spinks range makes all the difference. He was 6'2/6'3. He'd have 4-5 inches on Jones.

Height can be neutralized. Jones tended to bend at the waist making them lower down closer to his height. they did so that they wouldn't be punching down leaving big holes in there defense but the problem was once they threw a punch he was countering and gone. Not saying he would win off that but height was never really an issue in Roy's prime. Question is would Roy's left hook make Spinks more cuatious to throw his best punch oh I forgot roy liked to work the body against taller fighters making them crouch some and drop there arms slightly to avoid hard digging right and left hooks to the body.

While I think the two are pretty close in talent (Jones obviously has an edge in physical gifts, Spinks having the edge in technical skills), I've always a sneaking su****ion Spinks would have Jones' number. Spinks had an odd quirky style that was a cast-iron b1tch to figure out (remember how much trouble Jones had with Montell Griffin? Griffin's style was similar to Spinks' while having half of Spinks' talent). You could physically overmatch Spinks like Tyson did but that's not how Jones fought.

I can see a few similarities but I think his low crouching fighting style made it hardest for jones I also tend to Believe jones some what over looked that fight just my opinion but Spinks had much more power then griffin and jones would know that so I don't see him willing to exchange like he did with griffin. Spinks on the other hand was a big LHW huge target really so he really wouldn't have to look for him like he did with griffin if anything Spinks would have to look for jones. Spinks style didn't seem all that difficult to figure out he just seemed to have better physical gifts then everyone he fought which didn't allow fighters to capitalize on him much like jones just not as insane I think who ever wins this fight will win based off of imposing will more then anything else it could also be a snooze fest due to the fact that nobody really wants to see what the other one has to offer also they Prbly have a lot of similar tricks so there awkward styles could really negate each others

Jones was a great athletic talent and had a smart brain for boxing,,,,

But i do think spinks was a better fighter, especially at lhw,,, Spinks dominated a lhw division that was stacked, while roy cleared out the division but it wasnt the strongest,,,

I think spinks would trouble roy with size, strength, deceptive speed, and most importantly his awkward style,,, I think spinks would cause roy alot of problems just like tarver did to jones,,,

This wouldnt be a blow out fight, but i think spinks gets a late ko,,,, He had underrated speed and timing that i think would bothered roy during the fight,,,, Much like how montell griffith bother roy in the first fight with that double jab,,,,
Roy had fundamental flaws that could be exposed, but he was such an amazing athlete that he could get away with alot of things other boxers couldnt... But i figure with another ATG lhw like spinks, jones' flaws would get exposed down the stretch run of the fight......

really, the best of all time? I find that VERY hard to agree with considering how deep that division is. you got Charles, Harold Johnson, Moore, Conn, Foster, Tunney, Langford, Greb, Bivins, etc. Spinks would be in my top 10 but barely, I don't think he has the resume for that.

Let me rephrase that,,, he is the best lhw i have ever seen with my own eyes,,,

I can see where others could rank higher, but me personally spinks was a beast at lhw,, i think he had 8 defenses all by ko.....

i think spinks ia better than bob foster,,,,

Spinks might not be #1 ever,,, he is to me, but i can see your point, no disagreement from me,,,, but he is def a top 10,,,

Where does roy rank in you lhw rankings

Many think Spinks was one of the best, if not the best at light heavy.

Some posters mention then Montell fight...thats a great piece of data, that and DeValle's flash knockdown. And what about Tarver? granted this came later but Tarver, who is a relatively orthodox light heavy was always competative with Jones (KO or not). Guys like Spinks and Foster were better than Tarver and probably going to catch Jones at some point.

In a war Hagler would win this dramaticly. And it would end up being a war.
