Both were probably the weakest champions in the heavyweight division ever. Or do you disagree? Anyone want to defend them, or do you people agree with me?

Primo Carnera & Ingemaar Johansson

They were not the weakest champions ever. It is said that Carnera's career was mob controlled and protected, but he was not the worst HW champion ever. And neither was Johansson - he beat Patterson. Nobody beats Patterson if he is not really good.
Coetzee, Damiani were also HW champions. Johansson is definitely better than the two, and Carnera probably also.
That being said, nobody becomes HW champion if he can't box. Because nobody gets a shot at the title if he hasn't beaten a few top contenders.
By the way, Johansson was also in the olympic finals in the amateurs. (He got DQ'ed though)

Both are better heavies then Jess Willard.
Carnera despite known for being owned by the mob was not as bad as he is remembered, from the footage we got of him he was always in fantastic shape and had tons of heart. Not saying he was particularly skilled or any good like, but he was better then Willard.

Johannson was by no means exceptional.....but he did produce that truly exceptional upset result against Patterson which deserves genuine respect because he beat a genuine linear champion (away from home) rather than just picking-up a world title belt in the more fractured modern era.
I'd rate Ingemar's win well above a good number of modern era 'heavyweight champs' including Ruiz, Seldon, Hide, Damiani, Botha, Michael Bentt, Akinwande, Brewster, Morrison, Leon Spinks and Briggs.
Fairest comparison is to rate Ingemar alongside Buster Douglas and Corrie Sanders....huge, spectacular KO upset victories that shook up the heavyweight world but unable to consolidate on that initial, seminal win.

Personally, I'm a fan of Johansson. I think he's underrated somewhat.
Not to a huge degree, I'm not trying to say he was one of the best heavyweights of all-time or anything, but he was skilled.

Some wonder why the sports in the toilet from boxers who can't hold their tongue and speak appropriately among others!! Then theirs the "little fans" who can't seem to speak like an adult in public also!
Primo had a decent jab and for all his size he wasn't a hard hitter at all but he had wins against good men. As mentioned he was a very tuff guy who was more than willing to fight to the end. Afrer his career and during it too he acted in films as the "heavy" and appeared in the original "King Kong" as himself "the Champ"! People think of Primo as a flash in the pan but the facts are he boxed for 19 years and was stopped only 5 times in 102 fights and thats impressive in the division. You don't need to fight great fighters to get stopped when your not a great fighter either!!!
Johnansson wa the Euro Champ and retired that way too, he beat a good Eddie Machen and other than that never fought anyone of great status! He had a brief career to even todays standards going 26-2 being stopped by Floyd twice after stopping him. To consider him as a Heavy Champ is near silly since he never defended it successfully!
Both were decent fighters who "fell" into a title fight and won it so some credit should be given.
Ray.
