A fair enough point, but Charles was a great Heavyweight too, IMO. I think Moore was a decent win for Marciano also. The Old Mongoose still had a good bit of life still in him at that stage. Certainly not a corpse, like I saw someone else say in another thread.

To be fair I would put the Archie Moore win on an equal basis with Slappy's win over Jones....Both guys had seen much better days....But beyond that fighting the likes of Walcott and Charles and even a washed up Louis make Marciano a lot better than Calzighe imo

In my opinion, Marciano's win vs. Louis would be closer to that of Calzaghe's win over Jones. Both Louis and Jones at that stage could no longer pull the trigger and shouldn't have been fighting at the top level, whereas Archie Moore was still a top fighter. He defended his Light Heavyweight title several times after the loss to Marciano and challenged for the Heavyweight title again.

Amatuer question, Marciano first of all would be arrested for fighting Calzaghe in the alley or ring! The ambulance will literially be parked next to the ring apron!
As for the record comparisons Rocky is better even though it is NOT a strong overall list! Some of the men he fought were full time fighters who won and lost frequently and their records are not impressive but in comparison to the second and third tier men of today they are easily superior!! I had a friend years ago named "Tiger" Ted Lowery he finished his career at 75*75*9 that doesn't sound very impressive but I quarentee everyone you didn't want in with him and his boxing knowledge was top shelf. My kids boxed his kids for years and Ted ran excellant shows and his word as far as matching kids was true to form and honest.
He told me straight out that getting hit on the chest and shoulder within the first 15 seconds of his bout with Rocky put him "on the move" and Lowery didn't "move" from many!!
I acknowedge Calzaghes talent and his skill set but he's no fighter he's a boxer and has very little power. He out smarter most of his opponents and wisely choose who to fight and lived on home cooking in a weal middle era! Just like Rocky's weak heavy era! Them in the same ring is nuts, I'm still amazed at how kids here define dominance with weight!!! You can weigh 300lbs if you can't fight you can't fight. If its all about weight why doesn't Wlad weigh in at 310???? Just dumb ****!!! Marciano goes to jail and Joe goes to the hospital, or worse! Ray.

Marciano's resume far outweighs Calzaghe's.

Marciano was only 185-188 pound. Calzaghe is much faster with better stamina and defensively superior. He is probably like 175 pounds. He would beat marciano at a 180 pound catchweight 7 out of 10 times even with the weight and power disadvantages.
