Marciano did not fight bums. He was champion at a time when the division was relatively weak. Patterson was another example of that situation in the heavyweight division. Marciano did not duck opponents and Ezzerd Charles Wolcott etc were not too far extended. Of course Archie Moore and Louis were extended beyond their expiration dates, but hey what could Marciano do? Marciano showed a lot of skill, even in a weak division a relkatively small heavyweight with a really short reach has to fight smart to get in on guys, like Charles with great distance and timing. The point is that the great fighters Marciano fought, even on the other side of their twilight, would have beat up an unskilled small man in the heavyweight division....So one still has to give props to Marciano.

Slappy, on the other hand CHOSE to fight ****ty comp. Calzighe only took risks when fighting lacy, and Hopkins who could be analogous to Marciano fighting the likes of Wolcott, actually BEAT Joe....Put him on is ass also (was Marciano ever actually knocked down?).

    Its really that simple imo.

Hey its just a fact Marciano fought bums regardless whether he choose too or not...
Also Marciano's size has nothing to make his record better...Do people give David Haye a break because he lost to Wladimir?? no

Ezzard Charles is Marciano's best wins I think and Kessler and Hopkins are slappys

At least Marciano never recieved gift decisions when he got schooled(joe vs Bernard)

Marciano has 4 wins over nailed on ATGs (and that doesn't include his two wins over Walcott, which were excellent).

        Calzaghe has one.

Calzaghe beat hopkins and RJJ, are you saying one of them isnt even an ATG?

And calzaghe beat lacy and kessler. that is better than 5 walcotts

I don't know what I was thinking when I posted that, the Hopkins win completely slipped my mind.

You think Calzaghe's win over Lacy is better than either of Marciano's wins over Walcott? Is this a joke?

Calzaghe fans act like Lacy was some proven champion. Beating Lacey is like the equivilent of putting a beating on an unproven paper champion like Paulie or Canelo today

3 of those 4 wins were against ATG light heavyweights, not ATG heavyweights.

But Marciano's resume is still ahead of Calzaghe's.

A fair enough point, but Charles was a great Heavyweight too, IMO. I think Moore was a decent win for Marciano also. The Old Mongoose still had a good bit of life still in him at that stage. Certainly not a corpse, like I saw someone else say in another thread.
