Marciano was almost bullet proof against much bigger punchers than those faced by Calzaghe, who was nearly out on ***** street vs Byron Mitchell.. Rock is'nt getting. backed up by anything Joe can dish out either.. Not underestimating the Welshman's catlike reflexes, but Marciano manages to maintain his distance, of about an inch, and imo definitely swats him inside of 12 rounds..

Hopkins is a decent win but Jones was way past prime when Calzaghe fought him. That was like the equivalent of Cooney beating Ken Norton or Holmes beating Ali. Marciano has the better resume.

If you think that Calzaghe had better stamina than Marciano then that really does say it all.

Calzaghe had a great workrate, but it wouldn't be nearly as impressive if he had to pace himself over 15 rounds. It's also a well known fact that Calzaghe threw his shots without putting anything into them. It's one thing doing just that for 12 rounds, but constantly stalking your opponent around the ring and throwing bombs for 15 rounds is something else entirely.

I find it funny that you mention their weight to be similar and make a case for a fantasy catchweight bout, yet leave out the fact that there's an enormous gulf in punching power between the two that favours Marciano.
