its to close to call 1a and 1b ali louis ali in his prime was so difficult to hit while joe could end a fight with one punch

You could make a case for Johnson. Marciano almost... He just seemed to fight all the good guys he fought after their prime. I mean he beat (up) Moore, Walcott and Louis....I don't remember if he fought Ezzard Charles....All great fighters but they tended to be in their twilight years. Could one say that Marciano fought comp as good as Louis? Its an interesting argument.

I think Ali fought the best comp and the most varied comp and he is whom I would consider the best for that reason. In those days everybody was a ****er! Terrell, Wepner, Quary, forget about when you got to Liston, Frazier and Foreman!

I lean slightly more towards Louis.

Ali and Louis are my #1 and #2, respectively.

#3 for me is Holmes, but there's a good deal of space between Louis and Holmes in my book.
