    Duran won, clearly.
I don't think it would have been a complete robbery if Leonard had gotten the decision. I score the fight 9-6 for Duran, but there were definitely some close rounds.

It would have considered it a major gift if Leonard had been given that decision.

Most people I knew back then were pretty sure Leonard was going to win. There were alot of hardcore fans that were big Duran fans from his amazing run at lightweight though that backed him. The Zeff Gonzalez fight had a few of us wondering about his chances. There is usually a bit of uncertianty when a champion moves up two weight classes though I was really impressed by his strength against Palomino.

And I thought it was a real close fight but Duran deserved it.

I know I have made this comment in the past but it would have been nice to have seen duran jump up briefly to jww to challange cervantes. It seemed like his welter part of his carreer was the start of his inconsistancy as he would dominate a very good ex champ in palimino and then follow up with poor performance against gonzalez.

I probably would've picked Leonard. Pachecho, really? I'm not a fan of him either, but how about Jim Lampley? Didn't Marv Albert call boxing on NBC with Pacheco, did you think Marv was any good?

Most expected Leonard to win. This was his homecoming to the place where he won his Olympic gold medal. Duran was certainly seen as one of the very best pound for pound fighters in the world; but he had reigned at lightweight for quite a while and was coming to fight at welterweight, which wasn't expected to be his ideal weight.

Duran was superb that night, the decision was certainly deserved......

The differences in the weight classes wasn't a big deal then. Duran made his 135 then rehydrated to 145-47 as a lightweight easily. So his beginning training weight was the same as it was when a lightweight and he could now train down to 145 and then lightly hydrate. Leonard was still a young guy then and I doubt he was more 153 come fight time! I think Ray was in my gym the year before and weighed 150 during his main training sessions so 147 was an easy mark to make! Boxing people favored Duran because Leonard never faced pressure like Duran was bringing. The sportcasters and partime fans thought Leonard was the second coming of a "little" Ali! Ray.

Albert was just fair. I actually like Leonard. Lampley has his weak points, but his strong points are huge.

Pachecho was extremely obnoxious and I'll never forgive him for what he said during Benn-McClellan.
