i Told you, it wasn't worth checking the guys name out on the boxrec, lol

ian john lewis is another terrible ref if memory serves right. at some point i'll randomly remember why. again, not worth checking the boxrec for these clowns.

wright, incidentally, reffed almost all of bute's big fights up until the andrade fiasco
    nearly ever single one!
    talk about a shady situation
that just stinks to high heaven.
no wonder fighters don't like to fight there despite all the money bute brings to the table
From what I hear he has been lowballing everyone.

they gave pavlik an offer reflecting his worth in my opinion. at least the worth of the 2011 ghost of kelly pavlik. not much more than a million spacebucks.

he turned it down because he thought kessler got an offer of 3 million for a bute fight which was never substantiated. its possible that he literally imagined the offer of course, because nobody can find anything to back it up.

basically everybody else he's fought/been in talks with recently hasn't brought much to the table anyway (outside of kessler, who i will get to later in the post.)

and after all, whatever canadian money he brings to the table is usually being brought in by him alone. obviously a big opponent will bring more of that to the table, so i'm not saying he deserves all of it in all situations. american TV money (HBO and showtime) is likely the chief source of income for most of his potential big opponents (who do not carry large fanbases with them when they travel. ward, dawson, froch, etc.)

and then there's the super six, which basically took every big SMW off of the menu for bute for years, or ended their careers // ruined their luster.

only now, when the big fighters at or around his weight are now free from the super six, or when he move sot 175, will he have the opportunity to fight guys who bring a lot to the table themselves

and we'll see if he lowballs these bigger names on the split of the canadian money.

i think the only guy he lowballed outright was kessler, who can sell tickets at home enough to open the possibility of having the fight somewhere other than canada

kessler didn't want to take the offer for a fight in canada, and i don't blame him

thanks man I had no idea he reffed fights!

          Fitzsimmons-Sharkey fight referee

On December 2, 1896, Earp refereed a heavyweight boxing match at Mechanics' Pavilion in San Francisco between Bob Fitzsimmons and Tom Sharkey. He had refereed 30 or so matches in earlier days, though not under the Marquis of Queensbury rules.[72] Fitzsimmons was favored to win, and bets flowed heavily his way. Wyatt entered the ring still armed with his Colt .45 and had to be disarmed. He later said he forgot he was wearing it. Fitzsimmons carried the fight until the eighth round when Wyatt stopped the bout on a foul, ruling that Fitzsimmons had hit Sharkey when he was down. His ruling was greeted with loud boos and catcalls.[29] Earp based his decision on the Marquis of Queensbury rules which state in part, "A man on one knee is considered down and if struck is entitled to the stakes." Very few witnessed the foul Earp ruled on. He awarded the decision to Sharkey, who attendants carried out as "limp as a rag."[19]

Fitzsimmons obtained an injunction against distributing the prize money until the courts could determine who the rightful winner was. The judge ruled that prize fighting was illegal in San Francisco and the courts would not determine who the real winner was. The decision provided no vindication for Earp and he soon left San Francisco for good.[73] The San Francisco papers lampooned and scrutinized Wyatt for a full month, questioning his honesty. The San Francisco Call vilified him, calling him a crook and a cheat. Earp was accused of having a financial interest in the outcome.[74]

I just read that Billy Conn was a referee as well. Safe to say he wasn't as succesfull in that profession as he was as a boxer.

From wikipedia regarding the first fight between Ortiz and Ramos:

WBC declared title vacant pending a rematch, asserting that referee Billy Conn was favoring Ortiz, giving him the benefit of a long count in the 2d and improperly stopping the match in the 5th round because of a cut to Ramos in the first fight the controversy caused a riot where the ring was torn down, guns were fired and Ortiz had to leave the ring with a bucket over his head.

Yeah especially Chavez/Taylor I and Steele was the ref in an early Pacquiao fight where many knockdowns were called slips to the point where Manny's opponent suffered a lot longer than he had to. Luckily, there was the 3 knockdown rule and the opponent went down enough times to finally have 3 knockdowns scored on him which ended it.

I had been looking for that one. I just couldn't remember who it was. I remembered Danny Williams and Öner but not Airich.

                    Appauling stuff.
