  • History Section:Do You Belive Yuriorkis Gamboa Will End Up A ATG?

He's currently 20-0 with 16 KO and is #1 rated Featherweight in the world.
His natural talent & speed seem scary at times. But he has shown signs of having a shaky chin & his defence isnt always were it should be.

But the question is, when all said & done. Will Yuriorkis Gamboa be remembered as ATG fighter?

I voted no,simply because a lot of fighters nowadays dont fight often enough and are often steered away from the best opposition for whatever-does he have the skills too be? id say yes (although he still has things he needs too work on) but having the talent too be and actually being remembered as an ATG are two different things.I certainly feel Andre Ward will be considered an all timer one day,hes the complete package imo,and with a bit of luck there is no reason he shouldnt reach that status, the only thing that might hurt him is the fact that his fights are sometimes viewed as boring, but only time will tell

Sorry too go off point, the question just got me thinking about how hard it would be for any of the current crop of youngsters too crack the top 50 list in the future

Yeah but that never hurt the likes of Jack Johnson, Pernell Whitaker, who alot of people considered boring.

Good point,i think over time people tend too put more stock into the good things fighters did in the ring rather than focus on the negative, which is a good thing imo

              I'm not sure.

Not if he stays at Featherweight.

And I struggle to see him being dominant throughout they weight classes with his combination of a suspect chin and poor defense.

              But I do like him.

he's getting close to 30 already. and he's got so much work to do its ridiculous

                i'm voting no

juanma isn't going to be the legacy building win we thought it might be

he was a premature p4p entrant for sure.

donaire could very well beat him if his power carries to 126 (which i believe it will in all likelihood to the degree that it can get any man out of there if he connects enough) gamboa is relatively easy to hit when he opens up. lesser fighters have gotten to his chin.

and otherwise he doesn't have a ton of comp at 26 and 130 by the looks of things

he was an ATG amateur for what thats worth today.
he's about as fast as any FW i've seen
at least on the level with historic tier FW in terms of speed

my prediction is a resounding no, but id love to see him prove me wrong

and we don't even know if his age is correct
he could be much older than 29, or whatever they list his age.

Gamboa could reach ATG status in specific categories (speed/power), but I don't see him being an ATG fighter after his career is over.
