armstrong's 3 championships were completely legit though.
Hostak had lost to Steele in a non title bout 2 months before Armstrong-Garcia. I'm sure that knocked his position as champion down. Also, in The Ring's annual ranking for the end of 1939 (Feb 1940) Garcia is rated number one with the title vacant. I'm really not sure how to figure this all out with a little more research.

you mean hostak lost to tony zale. there's no way for us to know who was better between garcia and hostak. that's why i said henry wouldn't be an undisputed champ at middleweight if he won. it wouldn't be the same as beating ross and ambers.
respect to all of them. i just wanted to state some facts so people would have better perspective. that's all.

I stand corrected. I would say what passes as a champion in some of these organizations is ridiculous, but it certainly could have been that way then as well.

Yes, it was Zale. My mistake. I'm not arguing against you, in fact by pointing out what you did I learned something new. I just want to try and figure it out as I haven't seen this particular point of view before.

Not for nuthin...do we all pine for the days when there was a clear, distinct and singular individual who was the champ.

I would love if we had more events like the middle weight tournament that found Ward the winner.
