It takes the right opponent to show your full wares as a cutoff artist--usually a fleet, evasive runner. Everyone ran from Foreman, so he got more practice than anyone else.

Who else did people always run from? If opponents always ran from them and they are still considered a great fighter, then it must be because they were successful at cutting the ring off.

Foreman. He did not just follow opponents around. He was one of the best at cutting the ring. Post Ali his style was slowed down by Clancy and it seemed to become less evident.

It was well know prior to George fighting Ali his ring cutting abilities. Ali post fight comments adds an exclamation point.

It's interesting comparing Liston and Foreman, respectively, when they fought Ali.

Liston chasing Ali, and Foreman blocking the escape routes.

Louis, Foreman, Shavers and a few others all used the same oldschool technique to cut off the ring. pivot on the back foot pick the direction your opponent is stepping and take one big step

            other noteables:

            Duran
            Armstrong
            Frazier
            Marciano
            Chavez
            Lammotta

Liston mentored George lol. I think Liston was also great at cutting the ring off, depending on how we define the technique. With Liston it was more of a two step and staying at the right distance as opposed to the classic technique described by "Them Apples."
