He wasn't the better fighter, he just had the style to give Jones fits.Last edited by Vadrigar.; 07-20-2011, 12:46 PM.

Tarver was basically using a similar strategy to the one Harding used.
The fact that Roy pulled out the fight supports my argument.

I believe you said Tarver the better fighter:
Koed him in two rounds in the second fight
Beat him by wide ud and had him hurt badly during the 10 round (not sure which round exactly)
Tarver was the better fighterLast edited by Vadrigar.; 07-20-2011, 01:29 PM.

Originally posted by -D33Pwaters- View PostI don't think this was a style deterministic match up. Roy Jones struggled a lot with Tarver because he wasn't at his best.
If you go back to the Harding fight you see that Harding leans back and goes into his defensive shell, which effectively neutrailses Jones array of left hooks. He was also quite adept at slipping Jones straight rights.
Hence Jones struggled with him.
If you look at the Jones-Tarver fights you see the same thing happening. Jones rarely connects with left hooks. He tries to throw the counter left hook over Tarvers right jab, but he never has much success with it.
Everytime he got ready to throw the straight right, Tarver would take a step back and go into his shell, which kept throwing off Jones timing.
Hence Jones struggled with him
