The 70's had some special fighters, real greats. But they were all overshadowed by Muhammad Ali. Muhammad Ali was THE fighter of the 70's.
Since I give the 60's to Emile Griffith I HAVE to give the 70's to Ali.

By all means Duran is unquestionably one of the fighters of the 70's and what he did in the 70's was incredible I just believe he was in Ali's shadow throughout that period.
Personally I can't give the 70's to anyone but Ali to think what he did in that 10 year period is absolutely astonishing IMO.
I most definitely prefer Duran to Ali but for me the 70's is Ali's decade.

Gomez is widely considered the greatest fighter ever at 122, with the majority of the fights happening in the 70's including the Zarate fight. I don't think he's the greatest fighter of the 70's, but he's one of them. That list remember came at the spur of the moment with no research into the matter.
