Roberto Duran has always reminded me of a guy like Pacquiao. The way that Marquez handled Pacquiao so easily and made him look amateur leads me to believe that he would have much of the same success against a guy like Roberto Duran.

Aren't you the president of the Lennox Lewis fan club? Talk about laughable.

Yonda, I don't see Marquez as a similar fighter as Ken Buchanan - I do think Marquez is better yet I remember Buchanan putting up a good fight against Duran, certainly not steam rolled.

I am going off what I see with my own eyes, not other people's lists, or the fact that Roberto is regarded as "the greatest lightweight ever" etc.. He may very well be that, but that doesn't mean other lightweights can't beat him.

Pacquiao and Duran dont fight at all alike, imo. Marquez would run into right hands all night, and be roughed up on the inside as well. Duran would likely outcounter Marquez, who has always be a little lacking defensively. Marquez has great combination punching, but Duran had very good defense.

He would have a litte sucess in the early rounds but, Duran would break him down late on. In my opinion.

not only was duran rediculously impossible to hit
he was an absolute killer at 135 in terms of the physical package he presented

he could retire a man with either hand
and he knew exactly how to land his punches

i wouldnt favor any lightweight ever against him, though he could certainly lose to one of the other ATG's

he had it all when he was at his best
            skills
            talent
            heart

            the whole package

some great lightweights who would give him a good fight and still be likely to lose:

oscar de la hoya (rough style. say all you want about the guy, but at LW he was fast and boxed like a big man and he had absolutely incredible power and the chin to back it up)

Pernell whitaker (it would be frustrating to watch, but he'd certainly stay away from the bombs and make duran beat him on points via aggression and activity)

henry armstrong (plenty of chin, underrated power, scoring style, and he's credited with perhaps the best engine boxing has ever seen)

Nobody is favored to beat Duran Imo at 135. He may be the best I have ever seen, watched many of his fights because I think he is the best. Not to say there may not be others, but from the boxers I have seen I favor no one to beat Duran at 135.

Check out some film on Ike Williams, I believe he would knock Duran out cold.

I just watched a little of him against Beau Jack and I could instantly see that he was a top fighter. But it takes years to digest the information, thats interesting that you think he would ko Duran. From what I watched I liked Ike Williams stance, his legs looked strong.

Ike Williams' career is sad because he was never able to achieve his true greatness because of the corruption in boxing.

He was too risky for any big fighters to take on as he would most likely destroy them. He was barred from fighting for a long time because of his devastating skills and it wasn't until he was forced into a contract with mob leader Palermo (forgot his first name), that he was able to fight again.

Palermo would go on to keep 100% of Ike Williams' two largest purses.

Look at how devastating his punches are in the fight with Beau Jack. Despite his career being robbed of potential, he is still regarded highly on the ATG lists.

I watched some of the 1948 fight only had 6 min on youtube. and he did land hard punches at the end of the fight. I will keep him in mind he looked like a good fighter.
