Damn it, I was going to drop Buster on this.

What about Ibeabuchi? He had some speed to him. maybe not top ten but honorable mention at least.

Tyson, Ali and Patterson for combinations.
Muhammad Ali was the most naturally gifted heavyweight champion in history. His phenomenal speed in his prime never ceases to amaze though who saw him or who have studied him on film. The late Jimmy Jacobs, then the owner of the world's largest fight film collection, once measured Ali's jab by an omegascope. He found that Sugar Ray Robinson's jab took 8.5 frames of film. Ali's took only 6.5!! Faster than the fastest middleweights!!

Yes but, Sugar Ray Robinson has no prime footage so it would be a past prime Sugar he was measuring.

Yes but,Muhammad Ali's jab was "alot" faster. When looking at frames of film 6.5 is alot faster then 8.5.Ali's jab was 1/3 faster!!

And,SRR still had a pretty good and fast jab at Middleweight.Faster then any other Middleweight's.So Ali still had "alot" faster jab than the fastest Middleweight!!

I don't know anything about video science, nor do I know anything about Jimmy Jacobs and his video collection, but it would seem that as video cameras change that the number of frames per second would change as well. Is that false?

I submit that Muhammad Ali's fastest punch(Left jab) was faster than Patterson's fastest punch.

I wouldn't be surprised if you're right, but I don't know when I saw Ali put together a combination of shots as blindingly fast as Patterson did during the second fight with Johansson. At one point, with Johansson already down once & plainly dazed, Patterson explodes with punches so rapid, he seems almost to lose control of them, & his own balance in the process. It's nigh-on impossible to count the shots in that combination.

Ali & Patterson are clearly the top two.
