Raging bull is a good movie but maybe like you say they took many liberties with the story so it made it better.

The best baseball movie I have seen is also fictional the "Natural".

One of my all time favorite sports movies!

I was personally a little disappointed with the movie. I had expected it to focus more on Micky Ward the fighter (was surprised they never even attempted to include any part of the Ward/Gatti trilogy, or even Augustus), and instead found myself mostly irritated by the constant bickering of his trailer trash family. I'll tell you what though, Micky had patience like no other if what they portrayed about all the crap ****ie pulled was true.

Again, all the bickering family members and the movies focus on that just left me leaving the theatre more annoyed than anything.

On a side note: I love Mark Wahlberg and for some reason I could have seen him playing Arturro Gatti over his choice to play Micky Ward.

I've said this before on this forum, read the book "Barney Ross" by Douglas Century, it would make a fantastic movie!
Another good fictional boxing movie that I just remembered being fairly good was "Home Boy" with Micky Rourke. Have not seen it in awhile though.

It was actually worse. Bale did a great job portraying ****ie though. Noce to see you posting here L, hope you're having a wonderful new year so far!

It might not be as good as I remember I was maybe 15 at the time. Rourke played a drifting drunken cowboy boxer with a wrecked knee. There were quite a few heated conflicts during the movie and I kept thinking that somone was going to attack him. But after a couple words from him they would walk away with their heads bowed even though they did not know he was a boxer, it made me laugh.

I think even Rocky 2 is better than Raging Bull. Raging Bull just showed how insecure and how much of an ******* Jake was to his wife. I guess that's a part of his life, but I don't see why the movie had to have so much of that in it.

                My favorites are:

                Rocky
                Rocky 2
                Fighter
                Cinderella Man
                Raging Bull

I did not care for million dollar baby at all.

What I would like to see turned into a movie is "A flame of pure fire: Jack Dempsey and the roaring 20's."

It's one of the best stories I have ever read and goes back and forth between World War 1, Dempsey, and what's happening in the USA. It's such an intriguing book, anybody on this forum that gets it will have a hard time putting it down.

Jacks life was fascinating. Fighting in bars, working in mines, looking for purse fights, getting into trouble with the law in every town he went to, "riding the rods" (riding underneath a train to travel), being bought by a shady promoter for $50, marrying a whore, finally moving up in ranks and becoming champion.

It's a fascinating story and if done correctly with a quality budget, screenplay, director and actors could be the greatest boxing film of all time.

I have yet to see the movie, but my ex-trainer had fought Micky back in the 80's.

Million Dollar Baby, to me, is easily the best boxing movie.

Rocky was too cliche to me and just irritated me. Cinderella Man was pretty good despite the inaccuracies. But I dislike the majority of boxing movies because they are almost always over-exaggerated and the actual fights are also.

Jab you will not be disappointed in the least. Jack Dempsey's life seems to be unreal. A story that was made up for the sake of a story or dramatic movie.
