If Cooper had beaten Evander that night it would have been a huge upset. I wonder how badly that would have affected Holyfields legacy?

Maybe so, but how many times has Holyfield been on the brink of almost certain defeat and still not gone down? He was hurt way worse by Bowe in that 10th round and came back to really hurt Bowe badly. He lost the round, but he should have been knocked out by that uppercut, so I think I'll give Mills a pass on his brain fart.

IMO that 8 count saved Holyfield from defeat in one of the most brutal heavyweight fights of the last 20yrs..

a defeat would have certainly tarnished his record and Cooper would have most likely went on to defend against Holmes.... Cooper took part in another brutal championship fight 6 months later against Michael Moorer.

And Holmes would have beat him in my opinion. Funny how history could have played out if not for a few seconds in time.

Bowe had a superb upper-cut, but, the way in which Jack Johnson used it was genius, he would do it from a feint or my favourite just as he was coming out from a clinch, he made very tactical use of it which is why his was more effective imo.

I was sure Lane called a knockdown on Holyfield, not a Standing-8...

That's fair. I was just talking about single, one punch devastation with an uppercut. Bowe might have had the greatest ever.

For the Cooper fight? Could be since the ropes held him up if I recall correctly. I'll go back and look at the fight.

Johnson had a very primitive uppercut, boxing wasn't quite the sweet science back then.

Both Bowe and Lewis had great uppercuts, however Bowe was able to use his more Effectively, Lewis was very safety first and often didn't throw it.
