  • Better all time uppercut?

After viewing the Jack Johnson highlight video Carlos put up I came away very impressed with Johnson's uppercut. In your opinion who had the better all time uppercut of these three fighters and why?

Rid**** Bowe had one of the best uppercuts in all of heavyweight history. It was crisp, fast and extremely powerful. Rid**** Bowe hands down for me.

Bowe was an awesome fighter who's inside uppercut was a brutal weapon, he nearly ripped Holyfields head from his shoulders with it.

When I first thought about this thread the first Holyfield fight came to mind and I don't remember Bowe using it as much as he could have. Am I wrong, or did he not throw the uppercut much in that fight?

I don't recall off-hand if he used it a lot in that first fight, but when he made use of it in the tenth round of that bout, it became probably the most famous instance of what he could do with that punch in all his career.

Bowe vs Holyfield I .. Bowe used the uppercut in the 4th round and got his first success with hurting Holyfield, he used it again in the 10th & 11th round and Holyfield went down and had to take a count from a savage Bowe uppercut which really hurt Holyfield for the first time in his career

Evander was badly hurt by Bert Cooper before he ever fought Bowe. Ironically Holy showed a dominant uppercut in that fight which eventually won him the fight.

He might not have thrown it a lot, but he used it extremely effectively. Evander's head snapped back like his neck was broken whenever it landed.

While this is very true, as a consistent weapon I don't think I would rate Bowe's uppercut better than Johnson's. Jack seemed to control fights with it where as Bowe only used his sporadically.

yes that's correct, Cooper hurt Holyfield badly in their fight, Mills Lane the referee administered a standing 8 count to Holyfield even tho it was not in effect which robbed Cooper of almost certain victory
