Kirkland and marquez are probably my favorite fighters besides cotto and I feel the same way about both fights. Everybody sees one sided beatdown ko.s but I feel both will give their opponents absolute hell but I can't say they'll win i really feel both will be hotly competitive. With anne wolfe back in his corner and angulo still coming off a layoff against good competition i feel like its a prime time for an upset.

And i still think marquezs style will be more of a factor then nanny being comfortable at 147. I don't even care about nanny Floyd anymore since both are past peak prime imo pac has lost his edge and Floyd has lost a step he looked flat against ortiz. Pac struggles with guys who can fight going backwards as he looked terrible against shane. Can't wait to see em fight and can't wait to see them put on two hell of a fights where most thought massacres.

Unlike JMM, he is at his best weight and much closer to his prime. Plus Kirkland can hit hard enough to give him some kind of look in almost any matchup. Just can't see Marquez winning at welterweight.
Nice post Scott. One upset down....one to go!:weed5:

Anne Wolfe is the perfect fit for kirkland, or just for aggressive fighters period. Martinez and Lara will be nightmare for him but that's why I love kirkland because with his speed, conditioning, volume and heart u can never count him out and that danger and risk always keeps you on edge and I love it!

    • That fight made up for the night.

I don't think it's a FOTY candidate, only because I felt Kirkland really put it on him.

After Round 1 is was all downhill for Angulo and he was done. Once Angulo couldn't get Kirkland out of there and Kirkland came back and knocked him down, he was mentally and physically done.

Angulo made the grave mistake of emptying his tank so early.

      Great win for Kirkland.

That fight went exactly how you said you wanted it to, Kirkland down and hurt early and coming back to beat that ass.

Seriously, I went in expecting to be disappointed, but this was everything we wanted it to be. Very crude fight, but we knew that going in. Because of the style matchup, I figured whoever won would look like a million bucks coming out of it, and Kirkland certainly looks like gold now. Tremendous fight on his part.

Also, incredible props to Angulo for the toughness he showed. I can't think of very many beatings I've seen a guy withstand the way Angulo did last night. I was with Roy, I didn't think there was any chance he could recover but he nearly did a couple times. Kirkland wouldn't let him get all the way back though.

          • i can think of about five great fights involving kirkland that will probably never happen now purely on the merit of james being a beast.
            canelo
            chavez (top rank)
            martinez
            cotto (top rank)
            margarito (top rank)

eventually i think an angulo rematch should be competitive
angulo will need at least a year, though.

the world needs exciting fighters in exciting fights. they're at a premium today. Get kirkland on a goldenboy ppv undercard.

hell, it will never happen, but can you imagine how terrific//entertaining a fight between kirkland and floyd would be?
            that would be theatre

kirkland's got a lot of talent. he really does. he's gotta "move his damn head" according to ann wolf. in that first round he was a sitting duck until he got going.

                  I don't know, Khan's

"He needs to move his head, he need to give more head, yeah more head errmmmm movement, see he wouldn't of got hit by that ermmmm if ermmmm he used more movement of his head, to get inside them long arms"

Is just as bad as Lennox's

"He needs to jab yeah the ermmmm jab is the key to winning, you know what I'd do if I was him ?, I'd jab, yeah k-k-k-keep jabbing"

Turned it off during the Bradley fight heard he was just a **** for the whole of it though.
