Where do you think Larry Holmes shoud be on a P4P list and HW list?

How good was his era? What were his best wins? Is he overrated/underated?

Where do you rank him and why?

Between 3 and 6 on a heavyweight list. All time top 75 to 100. Just a rough guess on the all time though.

      He's my 5th ranked heavyweight:

      1. Ali
      2. Louis
      3. Foreman
      4. Marciano
      5. Holmes

I have him ranked #36 all time P4P. Very underrated fighter who would have been a contender in any era; unfortunately for him, he was champion after the heavyweight era died (and has never been brought back to life.)

I have to agree with Sbleeder. I have him in the top 5 of heavies, at 4 and marciano at 5.

I think holmes had the best jab of any HW ever. It had laser accuracy.

just out of curiosity, why would yall have Marciano ahead of Holmes?

Im not calling you wrong without hearing your reasoning, but personally I just wouldnt do it.

I think Marciano is underappreciated in some respects, but imo Holmes had a more accomplished career.

his wins over Shavers, Norton, Weaver, Cooney, and Witherspoon were all very good at the time, and even his lesser known wins over Evangalista, Tex Cobb, Berbick, Zanon, Jones, Spinks, Smith and Williams all turned out pretty good as well or were top ten fighters.
Not to mention that his 40+ career is fairly impressive. beating Ray Mercer at 43 or so more one sidedly than did a near prime Lennox Lewis is a big statement if you ask me, and he gave prime Holyfield and McCall pretty good shows too.

not to mention that he came within one fight of tieing Marciano's undefeated record, and had many more title defences(although neither stats mean much to me anyway)

Holmes was an excellent heavyweight, but he also fought some of the worst challengers in history. Plus he ducked a lot of top heavyweights of that time too.

As a disclaimer, the truth is that a lot of this was because of Don King.

Holmes was a very good fighter yet i cannot ever envisage him beating Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Tyson, Bowe or Holyfield in a H2H prime match-up, i also dont think of him as greater than Louis, Johnson, Dempsey or Marciano yet he was an excellent fighter with tremendous heart.

I have him a top 5 ATG heavyweight.

I think he would decision Holyfield prime for prime Sonnyboyx, tough fight though. That he won rounds against Holyfield when at least ten years past his prime in what 1992 sways me to this conclusion.

Against Bowe, Tyson or Frazier. Tough matches but I dont see him losing to all three. Prime Bowe would be the toughest match for Holmes, I think.
