As a disclaimer, the truth is that a lot of this was because of Don King.
I agree which is why I feel he is over rated. Watching him fight I just don't think he is very good. He showed Michael Spinks too much respect and should have cut him off and overpowered him but he did not have the ability to do so.

Holmes would be beat by Dempsey, Louis, Marciano, Walcott, Frazier, Ali, Tyson, Foreman, Holyfield, Bowe, obviously Mike Spinks and most likely both K brothers.

He would also have fits with the top contenders from the 60's and 70's.

I would like to see a list of ATG fighters who you guys believe would lost to Holmes prime for prime.

I think he would decision Holyfield prime for prime Sonnyboyx, tough fight though. That he won rounds against Holyfield when at least ten years past his prime in what 1992 sways me to this conclusion.

Against Bowe, Tyson or Frazier. Tough matches but I dont see him losing to all three. Prime Bowe would be the toughest match for Holmes, I think.
yes they would be tough matches yet i feel Frazier smokes Holmes within 4rds the other fights all go the distance

Interesting, I do have a feeling that Holmes in 1980 was a touch better than Ali in 1971, so I give him a chance against Frazier. He would have to be better than he was against Norton in 1978 though.

I think Frazier's better/more likely chance would be by decision. Just an opinion of course based on what I've seen of the two of them. Not a fight I would bet on!

I dont think Frazier would do a 'Jimmy Ellis' on Holmes in four rounds. I think Larry's game was better in every way than Ellis's......not to mention chin, reach and dimensions.

You do realize Holmes fought the Norton fight with a torn right bicep?

The only ATGs I would favor over Holmes are Ali, Louis, Johnson, and Dempsey.

To me, Liston vs. Holmes is a pretty even matchup. That's a pick-'em fight in my eyes.

Hi Poet, true that is common knowledge. I'm a bit of a Holmes vs Norton bore. A bit of a Holmes bore full stop. Ha ha.

I just think that Holmes naturally improved through till perhaps 1981/82 and that 1971 Frazier would have given 1978 Holmes a tough time.

LOL.....I think very highly of Holmes (I rank him 5-6 on my Heavyweight ATG list). To my mind, the only reason the Norton fight was as close as it was was due to Holmes' injury. Even with the injury I felt it was a narrow Holmes victory and this bs about Norton being robbed is just that: Bull**** :bull****9:

It would be cool if one day they made an advanced computer simulation. where you could then watch the fights play out.
