He was some new punk on the scene, with a big mouth and a pretty style.

But he wasn't facing some knock over.

      He was facing Sonny Liston.

One of the most menacing and intimidating heavyweight champions there had ever been.

Liston was literally going to pulverize this young no good youngster.

This was a gimme, this outcome was obvious, what could this big mouth do to someone with the ferocity of a Sonny Liston?

I'm not sure about that one. It showed his resilience and ability to come back but it also showed his some of his flaws. Michael was basically boxing his ears off until about the 7th round when James started to figure him out.

I think a better one for Toney would be his fight with Iran Barkley. That was a perfect illustration of his excellent counterpunching and defensive skills.

        Some more I thought of...

Diego Corrales vs Jose Luis Castillo
        Mike McCallum vs Steve Collins
Oscar De La Hoya vs Fernando Vargas

It showed how he coped with adversity

It was a great display of boxing skill, but he was fighting someone who was tailor made for him

It's easy to say that after they fight. Nobody was saying it before they fought. It's amazing but Barkley was actually the champion going into that fight. James beat him to a pulp with sublime defensive skills and counterpunching.

I thought that was his best performence. You have proberbly seen more of his fights than me. But I thought that fight summed him up perfectly.

I have his career set on DVD so I had seen alot of his fights including the ones against Fabrice Tiozzo, Frank Tate, Drake Thadzi, Jean Marc Mormeck and Henry Maske but I thought his performence against Brudov basically summed him up as a fighter. Excellent timing, speed, defence and a beautiful jab. Brudov wasnt the greatest fighter in the world but he was 30-0 with 23 knockouts and to dominate a fighter in the prime of his career at 42 years old like that, I thought it was a great performence and one that summed up his career.

I want to know about other fights like this so that I can watch them. I'm talking about fights when in 10-20 years time when the fighter is retired you would be able to watch them and see the greatness of the fighter just from that one performence. Please tell me some of the fights you know like this, Especially those of your favorite fighter or from fighters who maybe arent your favorite but the fight stands out for you.

I can think of a few others....

Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Shane Mosley
Ricardo Lopez vs Rosendo Alvarez II
Roy Jones Jr vs James Toney
                    Bernard Hopkins vs Kelly Pavlik

Feel free to tell me some more...
what ?! are you kidding ? how can the Mosley fight be one of the finest performances of Floyd where you can see his greatness ??? he almost got knocked out in round 2
