Skillwise maybe oscar had a slight edge but if they were to get in the ring hagler would demolish him and quicker than Hopkins did

Marvin Hagler is my all time favorite fighter & he beats DLH 10 out of 10 times, lets get that clear & out of the way 1st!!But I truly believe that skills wise Oscar was better!!The early version of Oscar was as technical as they came, good jab, always kept his chin tucked, could box on his toes, could put the power down flat footed whatever,Oscar had it!!He could parry,he could fight backing up,picture perfect left hook, but his stamina was ****.Based on work ethic heart alone Hagler trashes him,but Oscars skill was great!!

Is this a joke? Not saying Oscar had no skills or anything, but Hagler was the very definition of a fighter who did EVERYTHING. You want to make him box? He would move, jab, counter, switch up stances, and kill you. You want to make him slug? He would cut off the ring, get inside, and murder you equally to the head and body. There wasn't anything he could not do and do really well in the ring.

            This shouldn't be a f***ing debate.

ive gotta say hagler on this one. I heard many MANY people in my gym that have been previous fighters in the 80s and 70s (not big time but they were pro fighters) and is known as Top5 MW. I have him at #1

DT, where are you from and where do you train? If you answer you should probably do it by PM. Trolls will use any little bit of personal info they can get their grubby little hands on.

Would you say Cotto footwork was good against Margarito? He could position himself for landing combos for a few round, and for a few of those rounds also evade payback. But he wasted sooo much movement while doing it.

To be honest Oscar has been sort of like that for most of his career, he had a good idea of where to be, but was not economical about it all. Hence I do not rate his footwork particularly high. The way Pea made him look, also does not bode too well for my evaluation of his footwork.

The only time I saw Hagler in trouble because of inability be in the right range was in the Leonard fight.

In his earlier fights, he showed great footwork, he was finding the right range while moving forward and backward, using his deceptive reach in an almost perfect way.
thats conditioning, not footwork. Pacquiao can jump around for 20+ rounds and not get tired. Cotto is top heavy and wasn't used to be forced on the back foot.

Oscar learned the basic footwork movements at a young age and pretty much mastered it by the time he was a pro. He's got slightly better footwork than Hagler in my book. Hagler's real only "skill" advantages he has are his inside fighting (amazing inside fighter) and probably a better defense when he wanted too.

The rest is pretty much Haglers physical attributes, his stamina was far superior, he was stronger, hit harder, threw more and had probably the p4p best chin of all time.

Oscar has quicker hands and can put some quick combos together, but Hagler also has deceptively fast hands too..based on velocity.
