i'd say bernard hopkins, basically because that's what he was and did all the time. and he has got his rough-house tactics and dirty tricks.
tyson would also be really intimidating!

Duran, Hagler,Marciano,Tyson all had the mentality that would look forward to a street fight.

          Sonny Liston

My best p4p fighter would be Roberto Duran and Stanley Ketchel.
          Duran, Mayorga, Pacquiao

Marvin Hagler too..I'm sure his Iron chin could shake off most blows from noobs on the street.

Any decent boxer would be handy in a streetfight, as for well known ones, Tyson, Liston, Duran, Hopkins, Pacquiao, Hagler

If I had to pick one....Well, it is going to take something pretty full on to unsettle me with Mike Tyson at my side. Or Liston.

Not that it didn't stop Ketchel from getting brave.......and losing several of his teeth for being so!

He was a legendary middleweight champion.
So there's maybe one or two of his fights available online then? Okay, I was just wondering, because I hear him mentioned often as an all-time great and is on some people's favorites lists (like Bert Sugar's). But if there's so little footage of him, how is his greatness known by people today? From stories of people that saw him live or in movie theaters? Newspaper accounts?

Hi Anthony, yes Ketchel falls into that category of legend where there is little decent video evidence with which to substantiate how good he was.

We have his boxing record and newspaper reports and a few grainy fights. The Johnson fight is probably the best quality.

Ketchel and Harry Greb too are often cited as being among the best middleweight champions ever despite there being next to no video footage. Its not to say that they weren't terrific in their day or that they fell victim to a lack of decent camera footage. But what I have seen is far from impressive.

I've upset some other historians by being perhaps a little harsh on the likes of Greb and Ketchel. Its not their fault that we cant judge them very well to the eye of course.

Legends of their day both of them. But I personally wouln't bet on them doing well against the better modern middleweight greats.

first off - dempsey. he was said to have had 450 barroom brawls for money taking on bullies in miner and lumberjack bars when he was 16- 21 at 150 lbs. like to see dempsey when he was 195 age 31 in those brawls. ketchel, langford, duran, galento, quarry, baer, fullmer, tiger, frazier, foreman, liston, list goes on. but guys like dempsey had that very important experience in trigger fast moves admist chaos, spilit, split second thinking, brutal power to end it.
