Prime Muhammad Ali vs Prime Jack Dempsey - Who Wins?

Still doesn't make a difference. Ali had tremendous recuperative abilities. He got cracked on the chin by a Doug Jones left hook, his knees buckled for a split second yet still managed to stay on his feet. Frazier dropped him with a bomb of a hook yet Ali regained all his senses when he stood on his feet. regardless of whether Ali would be given time to recover or not.
Ali never took an 8 count in his career. Now Demspey fighting in Ali's Era with bigger gloves would mean his KO% would decrease.Comment

Also I doubt Dempsey could be effective on the inside. Seeing as though this will take place in Dempsey's era. Ali would just clich the back of his neck constantly and with ease taking into account Dempsey's height and the leniency of the refs back then.Comment

Simply wrong. Ali's Boxing IQ >>> Dempsey's. If Ali even got dropped by 'Paris' Dempsey (Which is highly unlikely in the first place) He would no doubt be fully recovered before he touches the canvas.

dempsey was not much shorter than ali btw. if ali was gonna get on the back of his neck it would be like he did to foreman...and he would be getting bludgeoned to the body for his troubles much the same.Comment

not that i'm disagreeing on who would win...but what does boxing IQ have to do with recovering from being hurt?

You are comaring Dempsey's height to Foreman's??
Jack was 6'1"
Foreman was 6'4"
Plus Dempsey was a pressure fighter and crouched when he pressure fighters.Comment

no...i'm sayin crouching dempsey aint crouching frazier. its not like ali would be able to lean on the back of his neck and push him down so far he couldn't get of body punches. ali's like 2 inches taller..its not like he towers over him. in retrospect foreman(6'3 1/2") wasn't the best example.Comment

I have Ali winning in a mismatch. I watch Dempsey fights alot because he is one of my favorites. Watching Jack fight Willard and both of them walking in with their hands by their waist, throwing punches with abandon. Ali would easily pick either appart.Comment

If you're going to use 20 and 21 year old Ali against him than you can certainly use Dempsey getting KO'd in one against Fireman Jim Flynn. And no fighters "got to Ali" after the Liston fight until after his layoff. Ali could have beaten Dempsey every bit as easily as he did Liston. There is no evidence that would tell me anything different when looking at Dempsey's career.Last edited by Calilloyd; 05-29-2010, 04:33 PM.Comment

this is the comment i was referring to. you made it sound like if ali got dropped by dempsey he would recover before he hit the ground because of his boxing IQ.Comment
