In 1991, Julio Ceser Chavez was booked to defend his title against veteran Harold Brazier. Brazier, known for his superior defense, reportedly put some of his sparring partners in the hospital in preparation for the fight. Soon after, Chavez was cut during one of his sparring sessions; the fight was canceled and never happened. A source inside of the Chavez camp stated that Don King ordered Chavez to create a self-inflicted wound... rumor has it that Chavez hit his head on a medicine cabinet to do so. All just speculation, but then why was the fight never reset?

I don't consider Mike Tyson an ATG, but he didn't want any part of Razor Ruddock in 1989. Tyson's "stomach virus" caused the fight to be canceled; a few months later Tyson's deteriorating skills were exploited by Buster Douglas.

Mosley shook his head and smiled when asked if jumping straight from lightweight to welterweight and bypassing Tszyu, who was the WBC world champion at the time, had been on purpose.

“I was really a 140lbs fighter fighting at 135,” he explained. “When I first turned pro, what I wanted to do was win the lightweight title, then go to 140 and fight for a little bit, then go to 147. What happened was they kept me at 135, after I fought Philip Holiday. They kept me down there to make me prove myself. After I fought John Brown, it was just too much. Then I got the chance to move straight to welterweight and the fight with Oscar.”

Kostya Tszyu apologists often accuse Mosley and De La Hoya of ducking their hero. It's done to explain why Tszyu's resume is so shallow and weak.

The truth of the matter is that Tszyu ducked virtually every elite fighter of his generation.he blatantly ducked a rematch with the man that knocked him out in his prime in an average Vince Phillips too.

If a man is calling you Chicken Bowe, the absolute last thing you should do is hold a press conference throwing your belt in the trash. What was this guy thinking? That publicity stunt was not even necessary, the fact that he signed off on that tells me everything I need to know about that situation.

This is the part that all fights that could have happened and didn't becomes "this guy ducked that guy". I see it frequently here. I also think the promoters and managers that chose opponents often are more to blame than the fighter who fights who he's told to fight.

No doubt about it.. For every link that suggests a 'duck,' there'll be another one that suggests it wasn't. It then becomes a case one link being more reliable than another, so unless you're involved with the fighter in question, there's no way of knowing.. The managers make the decisions, that's their job.
