Oscar wasn't looking to seal his legacy when he said that, but to broker a huge money deal and cash in with the fast rising Cotto and the fab base he had built. When Margs won that idea went out the window because Margarito didn't have the same following as Miguel, who was a fan favorite at the time.

He fought hobkins and Strum at 160 or more. But would not face Williams, Taylor, etc.

The Sturm fight was supposed to be an easy "gimme' to set up a big cash fight with Hopkins. DLH realized 160 was not his division and quickly moved back down. How can you duck anyone when you aren't in their division?

But it was OK for him to challenge smaller Steve Forbes, and make a challenge that "only he could make" against Manny Pacquiao, who had never fought above 135 lbs?
Again, the Pac fight was strictly a money fight. Forbes was only chosen as an opponent with some name recognition, who wasn't particularly dangerous and could somewhat emulate Pacs style.

So YES!! I make my case!! hoja is the ATG in ducking fighters!!!!!

Actually you haven't really made much of a case my friend. I bet if you named me your ten best fighters most of their resumes wouldn't be as strong as Oscars, and I could easily break down their careers and claim them as duckers. No offense, but you have a clear disdain for ODH which is preventing you from being otherwise objective.

Mike Cassell: Well, let’s talk about the other guys, Like Antonio Margarito.

Larry Merchant: Who Mayweather didn’t want any part of, by the way.

Mike Cassell: Well that’s why I don’t think there should be a question of Mayweather coming back. I think he has to come back. There is such a large part of the welterweight division that he seems to have just ignored. Guys like Paul Williams, Antonio Margarito, and...

Larry Merchant: And Shane Mosley. But that’s how boxing fans and boxing writers see it. Fighters today are not just fighters. They are entrepreneurs. They make decisions based on money. Mayweather didn’t want any part of Margarito because he saw him as a bigger version of Castillo, who he had trouble with at lightweight. A very strong and very determined willful type of fighter

Who said he made more money fighting Baldomir?

Mr. Mayweather never ducked Mr. Margarito. The situation at hand was the diminishing business relationship between Mr. Arum & Mr. Mayweather. After trying to secure a fight with Oscar De La Hoya, while Mr. Mayweather came up to 140lbs, Mr. Arum flat out told Mr. Mayweather that he would not pay him a guarenteed $20 million for the fight with Mr. De La Hoya. He told him straight up that he would "NEVER" get that type of money facing Mr. De La Hoya. So at the time Mr. Mayweather was getting $3-$5 million purses for his fights.

After rumors started circulating through the media that Mr. Mayweather may leave Top Rank, HBO stepped in to try and secure a fight between Mr. Mosley & Mr. Mayweather in which Mr. Mosley turned down at that time. The last fight that Mr. Mayweather fought under the Top Rank brand was when he fought Mr. Judah. Shortly, after, HBO gave Mr. Mayweather $750,000 to buy himself out of his contract with Top Rank, so that would make Mr. Mayweather a free agent and he would be able to get the bigger fights that HBO would be behind.

So with the problems that both parties had with each other, this pretty much took a turn where Mr. Arum would have to give Mr. Mayweather more money than he had done before just to fight the likes of Mr. Cotto, or Mr. Margarito whom were in the Top Rank stable. (Sounds Familiar?) So when he learned that Mr. Mayweather was looking for the next opponent, and HBO had granted the event as a PPV, he offered $8 million to fight Mr. Margarito and the fight would take place in Texas. Mr. Mayweather thought about that but then Dan Goosen offered $8 million and one dollar, to outbid Mr. Arum, plus a small percentage of PPV buys, the fight would be in Vegas, and he would be fighting for the WW Lineal Championship.

So from that point, Mr. Arum started a smear campaign about Mr. Mayweather ducking Mr. Margarito and Mr. Cotto out of resentment.

ESPN’s Dan Rafael reported on this. The reason for the split between Mayweather and Top Rank was reported as follows in Rafael’s 2006 article on ESPN.com.

So honestly, if I don't like you, why would I want to do business with you? Especially when I can benefit from doing business with someone else and achieve more? As far as the pay you can google the purse amount, and you will see that Mr. Mayweather made the $8 million to fight Mr. Baldomir. I don't call this ducking, I call this good business sense.

        Everybody have a great day.

Boxing at the end of the day is a business, im sure alot of the people who work to make big fights dont like each other, but that doesn't stop big fights from getting made.

            For example:
King and Arum have worked together to make big fights
Lewis wanted nothing to do with King, but fought Holyfield a King fighter
Jones wanted nothing to do with King, but fought Ruiz a King fighter.
Mayweather approached Arum to make a fight with Cotto at 140 lbs
If Mayweather claims that Arum was always the problem, then there was no reason for him to ever enter into negotiations with Pacquaio.

I doubt if Mayweather made 8m, when the fight did a ppv buy of around 350K

You think Mosley is small ? ...
Shane is 5'9 and DLH is 5'10, I'm sure having an extra inch on him does not make him all that small.

What's your random beef with DLH ?, why do you hate him.
