Jones said he couldn't fight Benn due to the fact that King wanted him to give King options on his next copule of fights. Benn was tied to Showtime and Jones was tied to HBO, so there was a problem with which network would show the fight. The only chance the fight had was if Benn beat Malinga in 96, but he lost it.

Long past his best for Cotto or Margs??? So why did he say, all puffed up, that he would fight the winner? He fought hobkins and Strum at 160 or more. But would not face Williams, Taylor, etc. But it was OK for him to challenge smaller Steve Forbes, and make a challenge that "only he could make" against Manny Pacquiao, who had never fought above 135 lbs? So YES!! I make my case!! hoja is the ATG in ducking fighters!!!!!

hoja offered Wright peanuts, knowing he wouldn't accept the offer, in order to save face. Williams, Dawson, Pavlik, and Taylor, All weigh within hojas weight class. So why not fight them??? He fought hobkins and Strum at that weight? So i guess you feel him fighting smaller Floyd, smaller Forbes, smaller Mosley, and 3 weights smaller Pacquiao were great challenges on his part??? P.S. and got whipped by all 3!!! Dibella (HBO) in that article had no interest in the fight and Johnson was seen as a much better win as well. So I cant see how it can be classed as a duck. The fighter Jones did duck was Jirov back in 2002
I don't doubt this was another fight that got scuppered in the boardroom, but Pyatt, Eubank (2) and Benn (2) was a very good resume of wins and worthy of a crack at Jones..

Mayweather had just gotten out of his contract with Arum and there was bad blood between them. Why fight Margarito, who is a nobody, who is under the promotional company you just left, and who hadnt beaten elite opposition himself, when you can make more money fighting the lineal welterweight champion?
