Alright, we can all agree this thread is a joke, but I will give OP this: people overrate Duran as a SKILLED fighter. For some reason it's become common to rate Duran so highly because of technical skills when it was his brawling instinct that set him apart. He was a brawler at heart that tempered and controlled that instinct with skill, not the other way around. He could move seamlessly between the two.

Duran's aggression was controlled and meant to set up openings, where as a straight brawler just swings for the fences. Duran had a great knack for going to the body to open up the head, and vice versa, and being able to successfully capitalize on it. He was also very good defensively making opponents barely miss and keeping himself in optimum punching range. I don't disagree with you often my friend, but I do disagree with this.

I never said he was a straight brawler - I said at root he was one. I imagine when he started boxing he was just a pure slugger with very fast hands. Duran would open up with disdain for his opponent's counter. Sure he struck tactically but you can see the wildness in him - if he could draw his opponent into a brawl like SRL, he knew he had the fight in hand. Even Hagler was afraid to do so (though I have no idea why in his case).
