I wouldn't say that he ******,but he's definately an overrated fighter. His lightweight reign is overrated and it took him five and a half years to unify the lightweight titles when he could have done so four years before he eventually did.

His apologists glorify his dirty tactics such as when he won his first title by busting Ken Buchanan in the balls and never giving him a rematch.Such as the time that he had to poke a green Davey Moore in the eye to ensure an easy nights work.

They denied Iran barkley the credit of avenging his late friend when they gifted Duran a title that he didn't deserve.Duran always had the judges on his side.

He cleaned out the division (not that is was a strong LW division), so i dont understand why him not unifying earlier is a major criticism. He beat Guts Ishimitsu who was a previous title holder, and Dejesus years before beating him in their 3rd fight to take the title.

What round did he poke Moore in the eye? He was beating him up from the 1st round.
Its been a while since i watched it, but how do u know he did it on purpose (if he did do it)?

The Barkley fight was very close.

He had the chance to unify the titles when rodolfo gonzalez was champion and turned down the offer to do so.

He poked Moore in the eye towards the end of the first round.Duran has a history of being a dirty fighter so it's difficult to just give him the benefit of the doubt.

I wasn't just talking about the barkley bout. His fights with benitez,Hagler,Laing were all scored closer than they actually should have been.

Ive never heard that about Gonzales. Seems strange he would turn down the fight. He took on every other type of fighter.

Its true is wasnt a gent in the ring. Yet neither were many other fighters. He had flaws but for me it doesnt take away from his achievements. He fought great against Moore.

He lost all of those fights so thats not the best example. But i get ur point.
I still think at his best he was an amazing fighter, and dont think these points make him overrated.

There was already a long thread on this entitled "Roberto Duran Overrated"- i think it was started by Method Checker or some poster with a similar SN. That thread was almost as long as the old testament.

Most of the posters in this forum already made their feelings known about this topic on that previous thread.
