Oscar DeLa Hoya VS Roberto Duran

****, everyone. I just lost. I just realized that De La Hoya has the impressive win over John John Molina at 135. Totally trumps Duran's entire domination of the lightweight division for a decade. Right. I'm actually a De La Hoya fan. I like his style and I really like his courage. But he's not in the same league as Duran, especially not at 135, which wasn't even his best weight! And I believe he'd get that ****ed up because that is what Duran did to people!Comment

By the way...didn't you say somewhere that Ali beat Foreman with footwork? I think that pretty much sums up your boxing knowledge.Last edited by BigStereotype; 04-26-2010, 06:57 PM.Comment

There are many similarities between ODLH and SRL and Duran was very pumped for his 1st fight with SRL i could see this again being the scenario for this fight. I do not think oscar would be able to hold duran off with his jab and could end up getting frustrated at not being able to hurt Duran. I see a late TKO Duran.Comment

I could see him having a shot at 147 though. DLH wasn't that great at 154 imo. DLH did good in a brawl so if it was anything like that night in Montreal he's got a good chance.Comment

Duran wasn't old or drunken when he got sparked by Hearns, he was simply undersized a fought the wrong fight.Comment

That's the caliber of moron we're dealing with.
What you fail to realize, is that "prospect" went on to be one of the greatest fighters of all time, and because we know that, we can't talk about him as if he didn't go on to be a 10x world champion who beat the best of the best and won titles in several weight divisions.
DLH was just such a damn good boxer that just watching him and how brilliant he was still amazes me.
And Duran fought Tommy Hearns totally wrong - standing upright without bobbing and weaving at all. You can get away with that against lesser competition, which is what Duran was used to. DLH is somewhat similar to Tommy Hearns in style. If Duran came at DLH upright he's going to set himself up for punishment.
Don't forget DLH's great reach, speed, and incredible power. He was also a great finisher. When he smelled blood the aztec in him would wake up and he'd eat your heart.
He was hungry, he had killer instinct, and he had a granite chin.
Duran was great but that doesn't mean he's going to walk all over Oscar. That's just ridiculous.Comment
