I bought into the hype everytime and was hoping the fight would be something it could never be. Hell, it still happens to me. I actually thought Pac/Clottey would be decent, after reading nonstop hype.
I only paid $5 for that fight though because I think deep down I knew what it was going to be.

i would have to go with Liston due to his level of competition with all his opponents being in their prime, Liston was totally dominant over the division from 1958-64 he lost the title to Cassius Clay who was the greatest fighter who ever laced a pair of gloves on. Lewis fought and beat some decent fighters but it has to be remembered that Lewis is the only champion in history to be stripped of every belt for refusing to face the No1 contenders, which is a huge black mark against him, as well as the only two IBHOF fighters Lewis fought was more than a decade past their best.
He was stripped of his WBA title for fighting Grant instead of Ruiz (Big Black mark that one) and vacated his IBF title after the Tyson fight. Took a year out and fought Klitschko instead of Byrd who was the number 1 contender.
Lewis was avoided on the way up and frozen out of the picture as much as possible because he was a dangerous young heavy and he wasn't american.
The so called best fighters in Lewis' era only were willing to fight him when he had something they wanted.
Lewis was up against the whole world at times it seemed and he did it his way on his terms. The fact that he went on for so long and eventually achieved what he set out to do makes it even more special. Defeated every opponent he ever faced and fought in such a strong era (Only Ali fought in a stronger era)
Liston was a great fighter and frozen out probably more than Lewis was, he should have been champion at least a few years earlier.
I see Lewis taking a head to head 2-1 in a best of three.
Liston was frozen out too and he dominated his division
